There may already be a thread on this but I searched and couldn't find it.1. Is there a difference in distance ed and online classes? From my understanding distance ed is completely online and online classes is mostly online but you take the test on campus?2. How can you tell if it is distance ed or online on mypack? I think i remember something about the section being 600 or 900...Thank you

i think they are both the same...but obviously some people actually take them from a "distance" and not so close to state...and it wouldnt make sense for them to drive all the way up to state for one test so what i think those folks do is they have to find a proctor where they are from to take it...at least i know one person that had to find a proctor where he lived to take the test

See i think that there is a difference with the coming to campus not having to pay extra fees....I want to take an online class and not have to pay more for it....and I want to know how to figure out which ones are online...if this is even such a thing. One of my friends took an "online" class last sem and she said there weren't any extra fees.

as far as actually taking the course, there may or may not be a difference between online and distance education. It mostly depends on the course as to what the actual requirements are. Some online classes are completely online and don't require you to campus for anything, others do.From a tuition and fees standpoint they are completely different. Standard tuition for a semester covers 12 - 21 hours. Online courses fall in this category. Distance education courses have their own tuition and fees and are charged on a per hour basis.Say you had 12 hours of on campus classes and a distance education version of a 3 hour course. You would be charged $2,637 for the campus classes and then an additional $429. Compare that to taking 12 hours on campus and that same course online and you will only pay the $2,637.http://distance.ncsu.edu/tuition/undergradtuition.htmlhttp://www.fis.ncsu.edu/cashier/tuition/ugtuition.aspAs you said, the section # for distance ed classes starts at 600.Also, if you click the course # in mypack you can look at the schedule of courses. This link is looking at ENG 331. Notice the distance ed courses come after all the others for that course # and they have a "Distance Education Course" heading before the listing. The online courses generally say "ARRANGE" for the meeting time. http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/reg_records/tracs_bk/sprg/courses/ENG.html#ENG331You could also look at the course listings on the distance ed website:http://distance.ncsu.edu/courses/spring09/index.html[Edited on December 30, 2008 at 7:54 PM. ok i'm kinda lost on your thought process about this...i guess this is how "I" would do it...http://distance.ncsu.edu/tuition/undergradtuition.htmlobviouslynext i'd checkhttp://www.ncsu.edu/registrar/courses/index.htmlprolly go to http://www.ncsu.edu/registrar/courses/websprg.htmland http://distance.ncsu.edu/courses/spring09/index.htmlthen i'd figure out i see eng 332 is considered web basedbus 225 is considered distance edi took botheng 332 was def "web based" imo...bus 225 was watching a ton of dvd lectures...i dont think i had to go to a final for 332....i had to go on campus for 225...i dont really remember there being any different prices, but i'm sure with that one link u can figure out which ones are more expensivei guess what i'm curious of is which one is more expensive, distance ed or web based...the 600 thing is accurate...all my online classes had that...dont remember 900[Edited on December 30, 2008 at 7:55 PM. Okay I just read everything and maybe I just can't read but how do you determine whether it is distance ed or online? Do you first just see that it starts with 600 and then e-mail the prof?Thank you so much for all your help so far

^yes, if the section is 600 something it is distance ed. Why would you need to email the professor once you have registered?[Edited on December 30, 2008 at 10:12 PM. Reason : hmm]
