I may have done this before, but I can't remember it, so whatever.

- the feedback between the chord changes in the choruses of "mayonaise" by smashing pumpkins
- handclaps after the second chorus in "daddy never understood" by deluxx folk implosion

i'll think of more...post your favorites

Crowd: "JUDAS"
Bob Dylan:"I don't believe you. You're a LIAR!" (to the band) "Play it fucking loud!"

as far as the studio goes, the first "let me put you in the picture, let me show you what i mean" in Love Spreads after they come back from the breakdown, funny that my favorite stone roses moment comes off the second album.

Did I see you post something about one of Edge's chords at the beginning of a U2 song as one of greatest moments in recorded music?

I swear I read that on here at some point.

^ Yeah, that's a good one. The huge distorted chord that sits in the background at the beginning of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."

the piano and string parts in the entirety of Sebastian Tellier's "La Ritournelle"

the drums that open up the song "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes

the huge snare hit at the beginning of "Wouldn't it Be Nice" by the Beach Boys

the snare at the beginning of 'like a rolling stone'

... i'll probably end up with a ton of these

Steve Gadd's lick in Rickie Lee Jones' "Chuck E's In Love"

The beginning of "Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy" by Zappa.

(I'm with Queef Sweat. Most of mine will likely be drum-related.)

the reverb on the guitars in camera obscura's "if looks could kill"

also, any of the reverb on jim james vocals on the album "it still moves" by my morning jacket. is also awesome in the movie "i'm not there."

- The guitar breakdown/wimpy drum solo by Ringo towards the end of Abbey Road
- The chord (I swear I can hear it!) that is missed and played barely off-key in "Sexy Sadie" about 1/3-1/2 of the way through.

- The "wipe" near the end of "Have a Cigar" during a Gilmour solo that makes everything low-fi and, inexplicably, makes me love that solo even more.

- When Embassy Row (Pavement) kicks it into high gear after the slow little intro.

- The entirety of Van Morrison singing "Caravan" in The Last Waltz.

- "Red-Eyed and Blue" into "I Got You" on Wilco's Being There

- The last minute of Uncle Tupelo's "Chickamuga"

- marvin gaye's "woo" right after tammi terrell sings "my love is alive" in "ain't no mountain high enough"
- the fast section of "light-rail coyote" by sleater-kinney, specifically the two big chords that ring out to designate where it starts
- the end of "oh comely" by neutral milk hotel, where you can hear someone in the back of the house yell "HOLY SHIT!"

I could do this all day. I think I actually made this thread at some point but who cares.

Do Make Say Think - A With Living and The Universe!
the 2nd chorus around the 4 minute mark when all the instruments and all thousand of the band members join in. The song then devolves into a beautiful and relaxed instrumental. This leads to another favorite moment. As soon as the song ends "The Universe!" kicks the door down for five minutes of noise. Great use of tracklisting.

Xiu Xiu - I Luv The Valley Oh!
the scream at 1:47

Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Sleep
from 18:19 until the end of the song

Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling Into Place
starting with the acoustic solo at 2:54 and through both waves of violins with one of my favorite Thom vocal performances.

Beach Boys - God Only Knows
entire song. if the song doesn't fade out at the end, it could last forever.

-clare torry's vocals in "great gig in the sky", always hits me in a visceral way.
-when paul mccartney laughs in "maxwell's silver hammer", as john lennon is mooning him.
-the way "helter skelter" fades out and then fades back in.
-that one bright eyes song where the one guy fucks up, and they stop for a moment and then start again.
-also, that weird conor oberst radio interview at the end of fevers and mirrors. i love that it's not even conor.

my girlfriend loves the raw opening guitar in "i wanna be your dog".

"i wanna be your dog"

that song is so menacing. which for some small reason reminds me of another choice: Animal Collective - Banshee Beat. I like that tension built during the opening with a singular note played over and over again.

the jangly bass at the climax of "on a neck, on a spit"

the transition from "run devil run" to "big guns"

oh yeah and

Quote :
"My blood flows harshly,
My heart beats loudly,
My chest still draws breath...
I hold it, I'm buoyant.
There's no end."
til the end of that song.

The Four Tops - "It's the Same Old Song": the drum bit that starts it off

Neutral Milk Hotel - "Two Headed Boy, Part 2": the footsteps at the end

Radiohead - "Paranoid Android": when the guitars kick back in after the "rain down" section

The Smiths - "Cemetry Gates": the way Moz sings "stones" in "so we go inside and we gravely read the stones"

Sonic Youth - "Kool Thing": "I just want you to know that we can still be friends."

I love it when John Vanderslice sings "in a white hot panic I" in "Dead Slate Pacific"

the piano runs behind Nina Simone's version of "Wild is the Wind"

also basically every interjection Bill Withers uses in "Use Me"

and that little beat in the second verse (between "why" and "everything") of "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac

and that Morrissey trails off the first two lines of the second verse of "Will Never Marry"

i'll see your "blisters" and raise you the E-major from "Day in the Life"
its become such a cliche, but it really does still make a good moment for me, thats probably my favorite beatles song

Quote :
"that one bright eyes song where the one guy fucks up, and they stop for a moment and then start again."

that is a great moment

for bright eyes i'll add:

-the first track from cassadega, that shit creeped me out the first time i listened to the CD
to me its like the audio version of that nicolas cage movie 8mm
-the woodblock in the back of "the calendar hung itself", its got some odd off-beat syncopation at times
-the toy piano loop (i've always assumed its a toy piano) from "lover i don't have to love"

talking heads - once in a lifetime - 1:45 - 2:05; just the layering of byrne talking about the water under the oceans
and jerry harrison has some great shit in that song too

dave brubeck quartet - take five - the first time the saxophone comes in; the notes get repeated throughout the song, but there is just something about how he breaks into the song

Opeth - Bleak starting at about 3:10

Devious movements in your eyes
Moved me from relief
Breath comes out white clouds with your lies
And filters through me
You're close to the final word
You're staring right past me in dismay
A liquid seeps from your chest
And drains me away
Mist ripples round your thin white neck
And draws me a line
Cold fingers mark this dying wreck
This moment is mine

Help me cure you
Atone for all you've done
Help me leave you
As all the days are gone

But only the vinyl version. The cd/mp3 version is good, but the vinyl version is beyond incredible, albeit somewhat weird.

In Red Animal War's "when fat pigs fly" the bridge in that song that starts with the lyrics 'when fat pigs fly...' absolutely makes that song. Never was sure what it was but the mood of that little section its absolutely freaking perfect for its spot in the song and I think that every time I hear the song still to this day.

also there are SO many parts on the deftones white pony that I could pick. That album is recorded and produced so well its insane. But one of the standout parts is about 2:33-2:57 into the song "Digital Bath" where most of the normal music cuts out except some faint cymbal hits and Chino's lyrics are "you breathed then you stopped, i breathed then dried you off..." What makes the part is the sampling in the background that DJ Frank Delgado does that literally sounds like a pristine digital stream of water and then the parts ends with the screeching noise. Instant goosebumps.
