Saw this today with my parents. Dad gave it about a 5/10, I thought it was alright. ********************Spoilers ahead****************************SaddestMovieEvar Kinda frustrating if you're a competent dog owner, but enjoyable. The ending was really drawn out. It really shows that the only thing that America truly cares about is dogs.**********************************[Edited on December 26, 2008 at 7:32 PM. Reason : post]

i'm hoping to take fiance's cousins to see this while we're in florida.

***Spoilers included, but if you're thinking about seeing this movie, you should still read it***Haha, I had 2-3 friends who had their girls/wives trying to get them to take them to see this and I had to fill them in on the outcome. They quickly decided they didn't want to see it after hearing what happens. My brother had even bought the book for his wife for Christmas and took it back because she's a huge dog lover.I think the trailers for this movie are so misleading. Jennifer Aniston apparently said in one interview that she went and sat in on a showing of it in a theater and half the audience left the theater early crying. I think everyone saw the previews and went "awww" and thought a romantic comedy with a cute dog to steal the show.*******************

Response to Spoiler******************I know the ending...I still want to see it. In fact, the ending is WHY I want to take my fiance to see it. I've never seen this man cry--and if there's anything I think he'll cry over it's this. He'll start thinking about our own dog, and then TADA! Tear city! **************End Response to spoliers

It sounds like a dark movie... am i right? I think that modern movies are way to bright and happy-ending these days. A good tear jerker (like a cold mountain) is good for this country.
12/26/2008 10:17:21 PM
The movie looks pretty idiotic from the previews, are you all suggesting this is not the case?
12/26/2008 11:41:27 PM
It looks (and starts) like a completely retarded version of like, Beethoven in the previews, but its actually not. Well, the dog's destruction and inability to be controlled gets pretty out of hand, but that's kinda to be expected. It gets more serious as the movie goes on.Its not a dark movie, it just chronicles a family while it is living with a dog.

i am not a fan of owen wilson or jennifer aniston, but i still liked this. but i [Edited on December 27, 2008 at 11:55 AM. Reason : i'd already read the book, but i still wanted to go]

does the dog die or something?
12/27/2008 12:16:18 PM
I intentionally read the spoiler to find out what happens in this movie, but spoilers revealed nothing specific. Please don't advertise spoiler alerts if your really not going to spoil the movie. I want the plot spelled out. Does the dog die a slow painful death? I want to know! Quit teasing me with the fake spoiler alerts.

*****************************real spoiler ******************************Dog dies a natural death. The dying sequence: dog goes out in the woods and has to be found and taken to the vet, dog barely survives the night. later dog and wilson share a special night infront of the fire, next day takes the dog to the vet and there are many, many, many tearful goodbyes. Then dog is at vet and has to be put down. Wilson says tearful goodbye. Dog dies. Dog has funeral at home with the family saying many more tearful goodbyes. This sequence took like 15 minutes or more, it was ridiculous. There was a part of the movie where Aniston miscarried and didn't cry until the dog rested his head on her knee. I thought that was a well done part, showing that the dog knew something was wrong.****************************************

Saw it tonight with the GF. She read the book and said the book was much better. The scene where the girl gets stab, in the book Marley starts growling and doesn't let anyone come near them while they are with the injured girl.Good movie though, I didn't care for the LONG ass death part. They milked it for everything it was worth.7/10
