It was just announced that due to the "current economic conditions" all exempt employees' salaries were frozen except first line supervisors, although our balance sheet was "strong." So its a nice Christmas gift from my company.

better than layoffs.
12/18/2008 5:54:37 PM
you could quit and try to find a new job?
12/18/2008 5:58:35 PM
Yeah, this is my third year in a row without a salary increase. Though my production bonuses have gone up, bc im working harder.[Edited on December 18, 2008 at 6:02 PM. Reason : .]
12/18/2008 6:01:52 PM
frozen except for first line craft supervisors (since i'm pretty sure you work for the same company i do). not that the distinction particularly matters if you're a peonbut yeah, hopefully they won't rescind our incentive payout come next march[Edited on December 18, 2008 at 6:19 PM. Reason : ]

My bro-in law just got his salary reduced by 1/3. We just lowered the cap on our Christmas presents.
12/18/2008 6:22:19 PM
was this for a regional power company?

How in the hell does a salesperson's pay drop 15% in 2009? It's still 2008 homey. If I'm not getting at least a 20% raise every year it's my fault only, either I'm not working hard enough or I'm in the wrong damn field.
12/18/2008 11:45:59 PM
OMG, I got 25% bump, LOSERS! Last year I got 30%, though. This puts my annual total compensation at just over $500K. You guys must really suck.
12/18/2008 11:46:31 PM
My wife got word today that no one in her company should expect a raise. I'm just a lowly PhD student so the though of me getting a raise is laughable at best.
12/18/2008 11:49:48 PM
If you're an average white-collar worker I could see one being content with a 5-10% raise. A "salesman" predicting a 15% decrease in 2009 pay needs to look for a career in Retail or HR.
12/18/2008 11:51:31 PM
i was told now isnt the best time to ask for a raise...
12/19/2008 12:08:34 AM
be thankful you still have a job...there are hundreds of thousands of people that would gladly take "no raise" right now
12/19/2008 12:45:40 AM
seriously
12/19/2008 12:46:36 AM
I have friends that are bitching about smaller than normal bonuses this quarter. I want to smack them.

someone find that thread where everyone was bragging about all the massive 20-30% raises they get ever yearwonder how many of them are unemployed now
12/19/2008 4:29:12 AM
that would be me
12/19/2008 7:00:20 AM

i got the same email yesterday...
12/19/2008 7:39:11 AM
I was happy to get my small raise.. we had been told we were getting nothing then got a little lowered expectations ftw
12/19/2008 7:48:13 AM
better than layoffs.plus, did you do anything to deserve a raise? Or do you feel you should get one for sitting in your chair for a year?[Edited on December 19, 2008 at 8:09 AM. Reason : .]

12/19/2008 8:12:07 AM
damn, my salary was frozen about 6 months ago
12/19/2008 8:21:49 AM
I got around a 12.5% raise this year
12/19/2008 8:40:26 AM
for me, it's not so much about the money. i'm perfectly glad i have a job, and as a single guy, my current salary is plenty to keep me comfortable.
12/19/2008 8:41:57 AM
We got a whopping 2.5% last year, and I'm guessing it will be a big fat 0 this year (we never know until the legislature decides, and that's not usually until July/August). Then again, in state government, 4% is a "normal" raise and 6% is big money.

thats what i find to be really fucked up about my position. pretty much everything i've gotten for the past few years has been below inflation.

12/19/2008 12:18:20 PM
I'm the only one in my office who got a raise this year
