I heard UNC has one, but I can't find much about it. Anyone ever been?

going to a dentist you pay sucks sometimes - i'd think twice before going to someone who is testing out their skills

the dental school is not that bad, and is significantly better than nothing.

When I go to the dentist the Hygienist does all the work and the dentist just looks at my teeth for a minute and pokes around to feel for cavities. I'd have no problem getting routine checkups done by students. All they're really doing is scraping off any tartar they can find and then polishing your teeth.I'd be a little more skeptical about real dental work. I've heard of too many dental disasters by real dentists to let students give it a go.

When I worked at UNC, I checked into it because a lot of people recommended it and UNC didnt pay worth crap for me to get dental insurance. But I believe you have to print out some form and submit it to get on some list and then when they reply, you're suppose to reply back within 2 weeks. I think the newer students work on cleanings and basic stuff and the more advanced students work on more complicated things. Its worth a shot... But then again UNC thinks they're the shit when they aren't.

try getting a real job with dental insurance and stop expecting to get free handouts

UNC has a clinic, but its not free. Give me a break, a cleaning is like 40 bucks.

My boyfriend went there for an abcessed tooth. Did good work, followed up with him, and the fee was minimal in comparison to other dentist clinics. It took a while to get him in, but apparently after seeing him they found him "qualified" enough (ie his teeth are horrible) to be a patient for the advanced students for certain things.

UNC will also do braces for 1/3 the cost. However, spaces are limited and you have to apply pretty early on.

A penny saved is a penny earned, baonest.

xrays and a cleaning for a new patient are over $200 at most places. If I can get that done for $20 by students, then that's $180 extra I have to spend on fillings.

Just be glad you guys don't live in Japan. You're only allowed to see the dentist for 30 minutes for ANY visit. Meaning that if you have something that takes 3 hours to get done, you have to come back 5 times from your visit. Basically once a week. One of my students just got done with 8 weeks of dentistry for a crown and some shit.
