planning on taking advantage of newegg's 15% off for paypal orders todaycan't figure out what brand is better for the in-ear sound isolating earbuds - shure, sennheiser, ultimate ears, or etymotic. the only brand i've owned so far is shure but newegg doesn't sell them - if they're the best brand though i'll hold out til i can get them.

I have etymotics and I love them, but I haven't owned in-ear monitors from any of the other brands. my understanding is that sennheiser's are not as good as their regular headphones, and that ultimate ears are baller if you get the really high end ones, but I don't know much about their cheaper ones.

i have a pair of shure's and love them

this review says the new Apple in-ear headphones are as good as Shrue, but cheaperhttp://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/12/14/new_ipod_in_ear_headphones_reviewed_apples_best_yet.html

the source is apple insider? has anyone else said the same thing?it seems they only compare them to low end shures and they say they are better than the old model that shure doesn't produce anymore? they also compare the 110s once or twice which for a price comparison is in the same range - without mentioning a price it's hard to argue that the apple product is a good buyalthough it is true that you don't get 2 drives until you hit the SE420s which are the ones i have

Are there any really good earphones-with-over-ear-hooks? I have always bought Sonys or JVCs whcih cost about $15. I haven't found any that are more expensive than those.Do high-end companies make that type, or do popular companies (Sony, JVC, Panasonic) make high end models?I recently came across ones that were noise-canceling (reducing?) that cost $80, but I wonder if noise-canceling can be any good if they are not the over-ear type with headband. And I also don't want to keep on buying an AAA battery all the time to make them work. But if they are good, I would consider seriously. So anybody, could noise-canceling hook-type earphones (not in-ear, or over-ear) be any good?

I've had a pair of SHURE E4cs and a pair of SE530s both of which have been the best sounding headphones i have heard (until i upgraded from the 4cs to the 530s).EAR-GASM!They sound amazing and they stand behind their products.

i wouldn't feel right walking around with a $500 pair of earphones plugged into a laptop that didn't even cost that much lol

just ordered a pair - gonna try them outand i'm RMAing my shure e2cs to travel with because the cord part over the air cracked on me for the second time now, and this time they're out of warranty - $49 for a new pair of e2cs isn't bad[Edited on December 23, 2008 at 9:20 AM. Reason : .]

Large drivers are needed to move large amounts of air... like... a room full but when you have less than 1cc between the driver and your ear drum a regular headphone size driver would turn your eardrum inside out... i promise you my SE530s can produce enough bass to make your eyes cross.... Think 88buick with dual twelves minus the rattle... Its there if you want it.

i have a pair of over the ear hd 555s and i would wear my shure e2cs over them any dayi'm excited to finally hear the right amount of bass though - the e2cs had none and the hd555s had way too much for my taste by defaultdoes spending $500 on headphones make me an audiophile even if i don't know the technical aspects of what i'm spending it on...fuck...

^ clearly you need the HD 650's

Every set of earbuds I have had have eventually went caput. The little wires always break after a few months. So now I get my earbuds for a buck at the Dollar Tree. I like to think of them as disposable. Its amazing to think people pay $500 for earbuds. I mostly listen to pod casts so I don't need that great of a sound.Regardless I am upgrading to a bluetooth headset to avoid the whole wired issue. This seems to me to be a much better product than any wired earbud, regardless of how good it sounds. I guess, each to their own though.
