Has anyone had Dr. Hambourger for PHI 205? I'm trying to study for his final exam which is an essay, however all of his other tests are multiple choice/short answer/TF, so I don't know how he grades when it comes to essays. We have 16 Essay Topics to study off of from a study guide and he'll put 3 of those topics on the test to choose from and write about. Any hints/tips/your experience? Thanks!

I haven't taken his course, however, a friend of mine was in it this semester. Hambourger has been progressively more and more ill (some sort of cancer) as the class continued, so there may be a decent chance he won't be teaching it through all of next semester- just something to keep in mind. He wasn't even at the final today.

And I did mean to add that that was a tip for anyone thinking about taking his course and seeing this thread, not the actual topic on hand. Editing fails at life and doesn't let you add after 30 minutes.

I took him for a summer class, and it wasn't bad at all. It was pretty much a brain dump about what was discussed in class. Some of us met about an hour or so before the exam to just talk through the topics.

Make sure you take the "special sauce" section of the course.

DO NOT take 205 with him. I took it jr. year and he has a speech impediment. He cannot lead an effective lecture. People constantly left the classroom because they were frustrated they couldn't understand him. I can honestly say that I learned ZERO from the class lectures. I taught myself everything and took his tests. They were easy. I got an A, but class attendance was compulsory so I had to attend the lectures. He doesn't lead discussions, or ask you questions during class. I just brought my laptop and did other coursework. Other than that, he is very personable in his office and much easier to talk to. He does want you to succeed. After that rant, all I will tell you is study the guide he gives you; it's pretty much the test.
