i have a Goodman furnace ( never heard of it, fucking D R Horton) and the hot surface ignitor is shot. Is there any chance I can get one on a Sunday? We are running some gas logs now so its not that big a deal if we cant.

I've got a goodman spark igniter, but that won't do you any good. You could always light it with a propane torch for tonight.

I may give it a try. Does it need to be a propane torch or can I do it with an long lighter?

The usual cycle is:
Thermostat calls for heat.
Exhaust blower comes on for 15 seconds to clear old gas from the compartment
The control board opens the gas valve, tries to ignite three times(this is where you should ignite it)
If flame is detected, the main fan will come on in another 15 seconds or so.

I've never tried a lighter, the gas might blow it out. A torch with a long nozzle is a sure bet. Oh, and don't blow yourself up.

By the way, if you have a Goodman that's 8 years old, the burners are probably rusted all to hell and a fire/carbon monoxide leak waiting to to happen. You might want to get it checked out before spending money on it.

i have one, 850 miles east of you

did you get it fixed yet? most of the goodmans i've worked on its the damn control board, or the pressure sensor that makes sure the fan is drafting before it ignites, is it flashing an error code?

yeah, well as long as the one that teaches you to make fires still works, that's all that matters.
