Who thinks we will see it fall below $1/gallon? I couldn't imagine my car being completely on empty and filling up for a little more than 10 dollarbucks.

Drudge says that oil may fall into the 20's resulting in what i would guess is sub $1 gallon of gas.

Ill believe it when i see it.

^^^^ No. You only show your stupidity making comments like that. The crackdown on speculation took place before the election.

It won't fall below $1 per gallon. Oil was $20 per barrel when gas was < $1 per gallon.

Predictions for '09 says ~$60 per barrel average through the year. It might dip a bit lower, but the analysts think this price will stick through '09.

Interesting. I think that OPEC will cut production before it gets that low though.

The thing is, if OPEC lowers production, that's a signal that they can produce more which leads to even more price deterioration. There's already more supply than demand so lowering supply wouldn't do a whole lot right now. They're best hope is just that prices get so low that we start getting complacent in our green economy crusade and using a lot more oil driving the price up.

supposedly it takes two weeks for the barrel price to influence the gas stations prices.

Nope. I'll be surprised if it dips below $1.50 and I still firmly believe we'll never see sub $1/gallon again.

^ maybe not here in NC, but there is gas for around 1.30 already in parts of Missouri, so i think it would be very likely for them, and other low gas tax states to go sub-$1 if this oil price trend continues.

NC can have one of the highest gas taxes in the US, but it's on a sliding scale, so as the price of a gallon goes down, the tax on it goes down as well.

I measure gas prices in Starbucks terms.

A few months ago, it took 10 frappuccinos to fill up my car.

Now it only takes 5 frappuccinos.

The problem with OPEC right now is that Venhezuala and Iran NEED them to cut production so they can cheat and keep selling a bunch of oil at a higher price. Their governments are on the edge and budgeted for like $80-90/barrel oil. Unfortunately for them, Saudi Arabia knows this and is basically like "fuck you guys", we're not cutting production so you can cheat (the Saudi's government budgets assume something more like 30-40 dollars per barrel b/c they're not nimrods)

on a side note... The gas cap expires soon, so we're fucked.

And you know they are going to be scrambling to figure out how to replace that lost 'revenue'.

Several months ago I was saying we'd never see gas below $2.00-2.50 per gallon... so I'm going to go ahead and say:

We'll never see gas below $1.00-1.50 per gallon. Hey, it worked the first time.

yeah, the state is whining about all the lost revenue because of the gas tax cap. something about they could've gotten .10 more per gallon if it weren't for the cap.

they also saw 200 a barrel being the norm. i don't put too much into analyst predictions. every time i read an article it seems that it says "contrary to the predictions of analysts" or "analysts said x but the numbers came in a y"

Crude oil is down another $2.12 today. We're getting close to $40/barrel. I don't know what that means for how much gas will go down a gallon. I've never quite understood exactly how the price per barrel translates to price per gallon.
