New ride on the horizonBMW 335i coupe or sedan. Can't decidePeeps are trying to convince me I need to go automatic w/steptronic vs. manual for resale. An automatic 335 Really?Discuss

tell those peeps to STFU.I'd go sedan because its more practical but if this isn't going to be your DD/only car then I'd say Coupe because I love the way the coupes look.
12/4/2008 11:44:00 AM
comforting to know that I'm not the only one that thinks an automatic BMW is RETARDED
12/4/2008 11:52:17 AM
an automatic anything 'sporty' is retarded. A manual gear box is part of the enjoyment. What i do love about the coupes is the mechanical arm that extends the seat belt within reach when you get in. I always get a kick out of that everytime! haha.
12/4/2008 12:00:48 PM
sedan = practicalcoupe = looksI would say go automatic if in the city, manual if you like to just drive and don't mind it when in traffic (or if you live in the "country").Forgot to note that I dont think the coupe is worth $2,000 more for "looks" since the sedan is dang pretty on its own.[Edited on December 4, 2008 at 12:08 PM. 12/4/2008 12:22:01 PM

12/4/2008 1:20:05 PM
135 coupe? That's what I'd want.
12/4/2008 2:12:35 PM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 1 series? Really?335i coupeOk now color....black on black or red on black?
12/4/2008 2:50:45 PM

12/4/2008 2:52:17 PM
No red leather. I know it can be sexy but I can't look at that everyday
12/4/2008 2:55:59 PM
oh hell..or I could get the 335dugh, decisions
12/4/2008 2:58:11 PM
G37 sedan or g37 coupe. 7spd auto or 6spd manual. go, stop, and corner just as good and save $5000
12/4/2008 3:21:21 PM
Is the diesel out?
12/4/2008 3:31:04 PM
manual coupe, unless you have kids or are constantly transporting people about. The coupe is such a pretty car, it would have to be a lot of inconvenience for me. And manual...it's a damn 3-series. One of the best driver's cars on the market. Even if you do get more resale out of it, buying a BMW is about the driving.Though it would probably behoove you to go look at a G37s, for comparison's sake if nothing else...I've driven one of those (albeit briefly) and it was a hoot.
12/4/2008 3:42:11 PM
dct is coming to the 335 if you can wait. best of both worlds. automatic convenience when you need it and manual control for when you don't.
12/4/2008 4:12:40 PM
Diesel is out I think mid 2009 and not sure if I can wait for that.I test drove the sedan (they had no coupes on the lot) and it was steptronic. Wasn't as much fun at all. I'm pretty set on the manual but have so many people tell me that I should get it automatic. Coupe works for me. No kids, don't plan on having any anytime soon and it is a perfect excuse NOT to have to cart everyone around
12/4/2008 4:18:12 PM
^^ it is most certainly not the best of both worlds.
12/4/2008 5:04:11 PM
Diesel only comes w/ semiauto (boo)]
12/4/2008 5:10:00 PM
Coupes suck... only true sports cars and trucks should have 2 doors...Manual Sedan[Edited on December 4, 2008 at 5:48 PM. Reason : trucks are also allowed to have 2 doors]
12/4/2008 5:47:53 PM
automatic helps the resell value? i guess the cars i buy are too old, always helps the resell value with old bmw's.

12/4/2008 6:16:28 PM
automatics don't increase resale on sporty cars, imo.
12/4/2008 7:02:51 PM
get a BMW Motorsport stripped+caged chassis OR YOURE A PUSSY. I CAN'T DRIVE ANYTHING, ESPECIALLY A BMW, UNLESS ITS FULLY GUTTED AND HAS A FULL ROLL CAGE. AND A FIRE EXTINGUISHER.
12/4/2008 7:39:21 PM
this girl is hot either way...

Well, I just got mine a few months ago. Definitely get the manual. For the amount of power, the clutch is actually super light. If the 335 automatic is anything like the 5 series I drove a couple weeks ago, it'll shift very very smoothly, but the drive selector thing is fully electronic, so it was very odd getting used to. Read up on the paddle-shifters if you are thinking about an auto. I've never used any paddle-shifters, but these apparently are a little backwards compared to most paddle-shifters. I actually chose the sedan because I didn't like the roofline on the coupe. Definitely get the sport package, because heated leather seats with adjustable side bolsters are just damn nice.
12/4/2008 10:39:59 PM
which has a bigger back seat for 2 horizontal peoples
12/4/2008 10:44:25 PM
I wasn't even considering the sedan until I test drove it. Wasn't as much of a beast as I thought it would be. The coupe is just a sexy car.Gonna go with the sport. What about Premium? worth it?Did you get it from Leith?
12/4/2008 10:44:43 PM
2 horizontal peoples
12/4/2008 10:53:01 PM
I went to performance actually.I modded the hell out of my last car and every single tech there had mods on their 335s so they were real open about everything. Mine came with premium and sport packages. It didn't help that there was only 1 335i manual at each dealership, so I didn't have too many options. They both had black, but my last car was black and it's just a nightmare if you don't constantly wash it. It came down to silver and graphite. Graphite was being discontinued and is damn sexy, so that was my choice. Now that I think about it, I don't remember what features belong to each. I do know that 2009 does not include the sound system in premium, so you may want to check that out. Also, the iDrive thing, at least to me, is utter shit so don't waste your money on it.

I thought all 335s came with the upgraded sound system? Maybe I'm dreaming.Chances are I'll have to order which is fine except having to wait 4-6 weeks!
12/4/2008 11:05:22 PM
European Delivery FTW
12/4/2008 11:11:56 PM
definitely manual. coupe for the looks, unless you will be using the backseat all the time (the coupe still has a perfectly useable backseat--it's just harder to get in and out of).
12/4/2008 11:14:25 PM
scratch that...doesn't come with logic 7 which is a must.
12/4/2008 11:15:04 PM
12/4/2008 11:15:55 PM
actually, this was at the end of the 2008 model year. no more orders were being taken, they were offering .9% on 2008s, and 2009s were still a couple months away with no signs of the financing incentives they have now. Besides, if I had waited to get a 2009, it would have been $2k more for minor front fascia changes, another $800 or so for the sound system which isn't included anymore, and I could have gotten the sparkling poop brown color that they replaced graphite with. The limited choices meant I just didn't have as much room to haggle down at the time.after a few months, i can't honestly say that there's any option that i wish my car had. i think it ended up great.[Edited on December 4, 2008 at 11:29 PM. 12/4/2008 11:28:17 PM
gotcha, yeah you can take advantage of those year ends closeouts!
12/4/2008 11:36:05 PM
i still got them down $2500, considering that I didn't have much leverage of "I'll walk out and go someplace else" since they both knew exactly how many nonblack 6spd 335i's were in the area
12/4/2008 11:38:06 PM
Auto vs. manual.........who gives a shit? Get what you want. The autos with the N54 are still fun to drive. Regardless of what the awesome TWW says, getting an auto won't make you any less of a man. And if there is a difference with resale and what trans you have, it has to be a couple hundred bucks difference. Thats the most retarded thing I've ever heard......well, not on here at least.

four doors for more whoresit's a bmw, it may as well be a sedan, it weighs enough either way
12/5/2008 8:23:43 AM
that's the way i feel sometimes, but that 335 coupe is really a great looking car.
12/5/2008 8:49:26 AM
if you care about what the ladies think, get the coupe. it simply looks better. if you dont believe me, go ask a few of your lady friends.

responses to the OP should have 0 to do with gender. A car should have nothing to do with getting more 'hoes' because if it does you're just that sad. It should have everything to do with your sense of style, driving style, lifestyle etc.and no manual doesn't make you more of a man...it just makes the driving experience that much more fun.
