Okay I have a quick question. I have seen on Engadget and other sites the external USB hard drive stand that allows you to hot swap internal IDE and SATA drives, as well as laptop and other devices. But what is the damn thing called? I have a couple of customers at work that have fucked PCs but working HDDs both SATA and laptop and I need to buy one of these babies to pull their data off. Unfortunately I can't think of what to call it, so I'm kinda up shit creek.

Yea I saw that, but thats not really what I want. This thing has the same compatibilities, but it was basically like a hard drive cradle. It made the drive stand up just like my smartphone cradle does with all the power/drive connections at the base. It was a few bucks more, but looked a hella lot better sitting on a desk than that thing. Also it was a USB hub, which I need on my desk. Hence why I'm being a dick about looking for the right thing. Thanks for trying though.

...why does it matter? you're going to use it a couple of times.get something that works, use it, then put it away. this isn't something you're going to need every day, so there's no reason to keep it out on your desk.if you need a USB hub, get a USB hub.in related news:http://www.storagedepot.co.uk/Enclosures-and-Cases/sc884/p640.aspxthat took me all of ten seconds to find with google]

Because Evan, contrary to what you think I have a fucking stack of HDDs that need to be sorted through; I have a fulltime and part-time job that will both benefit, and the reviews on that thing are not that great. If I am spending the cash, I'd rather go for a couple bucks more and get something that lasts.^Thats pretty much what I need right there! Now just got to find the one with multiple adaptors.[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 11:19 PM. Reason : thx 2 u]

condescending help not appreciated

Yea I found they had SATA that would do both 3.5 and 2.5 and IDE that would do 3.5 and 2.5. But none that would do both. So your right, I would multiple ones that would clutter my desk up much worse. So fuck that, I'm just ordering that thing you originally posted. It'll work good enough until somebody releases an ubarenclosure that adapts to all sizes and connectors and takes up no room on my damn desk. Thanks to all who helped, whether condescending or not.
