12/1/2008 9:32:31 PM
thx man
12/1/2008 9:32:32 PM
^^^actually there is. now.but there's only one production database, and that's where the trouble is[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 9:36 PM. Reason : i even got continuous integration set up on this biatch]
12/1/2008 9:32:47 PM
lol, I stand corrected thenout of curiosity how are you collecting data regarding the issue?I assume it's MSSQL?
12/1/2008 9:38:13 PM
it is mssql. it's failing on authentication so i checked the user indices and the fragmentation is > 99% so i'm gonna rebuild them and we'll see how that goes

12/1/2008 9:46:12 PM
THANX FOR THE WARNING. I didn't pay $5 six years ago to be treated like this.lol, jk. Fix this shit and make it stop sucking.[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 9:48 PM. Reason : l]
12/1/2008 9:48:45 PM
tww won't stop sucking until we move away from ASP and MSSQL... that is, completely away from crazyweb
12/1/2008 9:50:43 PM
i dunno. between crazyweb and phpBBi'd prolly still go with crazyweb
12/1/2008 9:54:24 PM
evan your TWW killer really worked out well, didn't it?
12/1/2008 9:54:54 PM
no, it was horrible
12/1/2008 9:56:08 PM
how hard can it be to port the TWW codebase to another language
12/1/2008 9:56:35 PM
lol, I must admit I was hoping for a slightly more interesting answeron another note, if you get a chance can you confirm my suspicion that the transactions for reading and updating the flood control timestamp are occuring seperately?I've long suspected that's what's causing mega ultra double posts, and if so it should be fairly easy to combine the read and update into one transaction with a return value ;-p
12/1/2008 10:01:38 PM
crazyweb is pretty quick when it's working (TWW is one of the fastest sites I browse), but it seems to go down a lot, and has lost more data than any other messageboard I know of.

^^ those are hosting and management problemswhich i guess reduces to a management problem[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 10:10 PM. Reason : tiberius you're probably right on the transaction thing, i'll take a peek when i get a chance.]

As a longtime php developer, evan it doesn't matter.A well designer ASP.Net app will be just as performant as a PHP built one. And MSSQL, again if used properly, is ridiculously fast and reliable. MySQL is just now really catching up to it in many areas. No reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater, things just need an overhaul, mainly the database. I'd bet a schema change and a newly designed DB to take advantage of MSSQL would help quite a bit. The rest is just nit picky feature requests.
12/1/2008 11:06:16 PM
oh, i know, i've done plenty of work in both environmentsi just hate ASP and MSSQLopen source for the motherfucking win.]

i can't read but like one out of every 8 words in this threadbut i am glad you are fixing this log in problemtwas annoying
12/1/2008 11:14:44 PM
i'm really tempted to use javascript to remove all words on this page except for every 8th wordbut i won't
12/1/2008 11:18:10 PM
fyi this is probably going to continue overnight as well. i can't tell if mssql is choking on the rebuild or if it's just taking damn forever so i'm gonna let it go overnight and see what's up in the morning.gnight tdub
12/1/2008 11:46:17 PM
i have not experienced any wonky shit yet
12/1/2008 11:47:27 PM
MSSQL is actually pretty sweet except for the fact that it costs buxit had stored procedures ages before MySQLI just now noticed how TWW looks like the standard ASP form designer output in State Red instead of Microsft Grey, lol
12/1/2008 11:55:02 PM
^^^If it's any consolation, our division had to do a full DB rebuild a couple of week ago. It took 5 days, and that is on insano hardware. So yeah, it's probably just taking a while (I know 6-18 hours is pretty common 95% case for a populated rebuilt/reindex)

bttt for round 2
12/2/2008 10:19:55 AM

Whenever i am gonna log in i just bring some bread, cheese, ham, turkey, mayonnaise, mustard, and a toaster upstairs and sit it on my desk.I start the login process and then fix the sandwich, once I am done eating the sandwich it is usually done.
12/2/2008 10:59:07 AM

12/2/2008 11:03:00 AM

12/2/2008 11:09:20 AM
well no shit it's a tww'r but whoi haven't accepted the friend request yet, but i know like 40 of you fuckers that have
12/2/2008 11:11:45 AM
qntmfred, as an experienced TWW user, I have to come to expect wonky shit to be imminent at any time. However, I do appreciate the early warning. It is like warning me that my peanut butter will be creamy, but a warning is nice none the less.[Edited on December 2, 2008 at 11:23 AM. Reason : *]
12/2/2008 11:23:40 AM
