Anyone know a good place in cary/raleigh to get a bowling ball drilled? My gf and I ordered some for her parents and we want to get the custom fitted now. Also - anyone know an approximate price per ball?

Wal-mart will drill them if you buy them from there. Not sure if they would if you got it somewhere else.

AMF off Glenwood by Walmart[Edited on November 30, 2008 at 1:54 PM. Reason : get Sam to do it]

^^I don't know if I'd trust Wal-mart to do this. I can already see something like 4 holes getting drilled in a random pattern by some high-school drop out who is still mad at his parents for not accepting his emo ways. [Edited on November 30, 2008 at 1:54 PM. Reason : ^]

Make SURE you get a guy who is experienced in drilling. Don't let your ball get drilled by someone in training. Quick story....I was bowling in a couple leagues and took my balls to West Virginia when I was visiting family. I left them in the back of the truck in a covered bed, and needless to say some jackass got in my truck and stole them. When I got back to North Carolina, I bought a couple new balls and got them drilled at the pro shop in Cary on Buck Jones. Some new guy drilled them, and he measured/drilled way wrong... like 3/4" wrong, which is like a mile in bowling ball terms. So the balls kinda feel weird on my hand, but I go with it for a couple months. I was averaging about 205 before the balls got stolen, and afterwards... I went down to about 170. I couldn't break 200 to save my life. It never occured to me that the ball was drilled improperly. All I saw was the ball not hooking correctly, and I assumed that it was just weighted differently and maybe I needed to adjust. Well this went on for a couple mnnths, and I finally went back to the actual pro at the bowling shop and asked him what I was doing wrong. He watched me throw a couple shots and asked to see my ball. He then took it into the shop and told me what was happening. He plugged my ball and redrilled it, but honestly by that time the damage was done.Although I now had a correctly drilled ball, I was now doing so many little things to compensate for the incorrectly drilled ball, I was still bowling poorly. That was 5 years ago, and I still am only averaging about 185, which might sound good, but it's not for something I used to be REALLY good at.So moral of the story, make sure you get your ball drilled correctly, by a GOOD driller.

I used to be Pro - take your stuff to Irwin at Buffaloe Lanes in Raleigh. Hes pretty much the best there is. Hes also an NCSU alum.

Thanks - and as to the 2nd post - I know pro shops do it, but from my understanding its something that requires skill, and shouldn't be done by just any pro shop. I've heard good things about ^, I'll probably take them there.

You should definitely take it to Irwin!!! He's the best! Tell him Emma says hello!

Is there a large market for stolen bowling balls? I would have it personalised if thats the case

It takes tremendous skill to drill a ball appropriately, to perform the way the weight block was designed to move the ball on the lane, given your revolution rate and angle of roll (3/4 roll, full role, side roll, etc).Irwin has drilled 2 or 3 of my last balls, but Ive gotten out of bowling lately. I havent bowled in 2 or 3 years or so.

Why would it bother you if this is in the lounge? It's a serious topic, and a lot more relevant than some of the shit that gets posted in here.Maybe you should go to Chit Chat.

ANGRY NOOB.calm down potatoe. jesus h. christ. I have no problems with it being in the lounge. however, there is so much potential for funny, that chit chat deserves a chance at it.

I think they were inferring that the conversation's relation to "balls" and "drilling" would lead to a lot more funny in Chit Chat.Furthermore, it doesn't look to me like any of those comments were complaints, rather an indication that the user would have had something really funny to say had the thread been made in Chit Chat and in deference to you, they did not shit all over your thread.[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 3:02 PM. ^HOLY JESUS. THANK YOU.

Well I suppose if it makes you feel better you could make a ball drilling thread in Chit Chat and post this amazingly funny/witty statement or limerick or whatever there, so as not to deprive the Wolf Web of this morsel of humor.
