any workaround to get a decent working area on these shitty displays nowadays? can you change the DPI and make more room or anything?

replace the screen.post the make/model and we'll look it up while you try to change the DPI.

if you put some linux on there you can do a sort of virtual desktop thing where the screen is a small section of the desktop, along with the multiple desktops. I think windows can do the former depending on who does the video drivers, and the second can be done but its always been flakey for me.

what kinda laptop did you buy, anyways?
11/25/2008 11:11:22 AM
lol i didn't buy anything yet but i'm just dreading a low res screen on these laptops that i'm looking at in my price rangei know for my treo there's an app that will let me reduce the DPI and it makes fonts smaller and so it gives me more screen real estate even with the same resolution - trying to apply the same principle here
11/25/2008 1:33:06 PM
what do you consider "low" resolution?
11/25/2008 1:44:30 PM
well obviously the netbook ones for starters - something x 600 - 600px is insanely small. i can understand on netbooks though - wouldn't do more than one thing at a time and would keep IM apps undockedon the laptops, 1280 x 800 is low to me after using 1600x1200 on my desktop and 1400x1050 on my ibm laptop for so long

wat
11/25/2008 1:59:04 PM
I feel trapped in a box at anything lower than 1650x1050 personallyand yes, the answer is to not buy shitty laptops

just set a new price range. there, problem solved. what do i get?
11/25/2008 2:39:37 PM
wait a month or two, save a few hundred more, buy something you'll be happier with for a lot longer./threador, what ^ said

lol/fucked

i don't know, i'm not unsatisfied with 1280x800 on my 14"*shrug*

1280x800 is fine for me on my laptop and i do illustrator & photoshop design work on it.

I'm dreading getting a new laptop, i love 1920 by 1200 on a 15.4". 1680 by 1050 seems small in comparison.
