My gpu and cpu are overclocked, but temperatures aren't really an issue at all. When the computer seizes up sound stutters, mouse won't move etc and then as soon as it comes back I hear something click inside of the PC. What could that be? I have a pretty decent OCZ PSU. The only thing that I can think of that has changed in a year is a 2GB kit of crucial ballistix PC2 6400 ram. I think I have it running at 44412

you know...that's not a half bad suggestion. I have a WD raptor from ages ago and this really old IDE. What are the best diagnostic tools out these days for that?

my hard drive was going back, and just before it died it started freezing up for short periods of time (5-20 seconds). during that time the HDD light was on.

I would guess, because your sound is stuttering, that it's your CPU overheating. make sure your fan is clear and working, and re-seat the CPU if you have some thermal grease lying around (and some xylenol based cleaner to clean the old grease off).

That was my first thought. 56C and 52C under a medium load. E 6400 @ 3.01GHz
