I'll be out there Sunday evening through Tuesday morning. Anyone live there or familiar with the area? I'll be at Diablo Canyon Power Plant during the day and want to see what the town/area has to offer at night. I'm thinking about taking a job out there.

My sister just moved out there a couple of months ago during her husband's outage, which I think is at that plant. Not sure if theres much to actually do in SLO, but I can see what she knows of.

^^^ You're thinking of Santa Cruz I think.

SLO isn't on the beach. It is a pretty cool town. There are a good number of restaurants and bars (Cal Poly is the main purpose of the town). Lots of festivals on the weekends.

Rains a lot during the rainy season though.

weird, we just drove through san luis obispo today. we're doing a roadtrip vacation up to san francisco. all we did in SLO was stop for lunch though, at this place Mo's Smokehouse... pretty good bbq. went up to san simeon and the hearst castle the rest of the day. have fun.

I lived in a hotel in Pismo Beach with a guy who was training at Diablo Canyon for the whole summer.

My suggestions: Go bar hopping one night in downtown (if you can even call it that) SLO. There a strip of 4-5 blocks with bars that will be full of the college crowd.

Then the other night go over the hill to Pismo beach. there's are 5-6 SOLID bars right by the pier on the main drag. The crowd there is a little older and there won't be the gobs of young tail in there like there is in the summer, but I met a lot of interesting/weird characters in my nights there

The weather is really nice here. SLO isn't on the beach but really damn close. I'm staying in the Cliffs Resort in Pismo Beach. I was recommended to go to 'Firestone Grill' and order the Tri-tip sandwhich. So that is where I'll be heading for the football game.
