In the Cary area U-VERSE is planned to be released on the 16th of December.

great! still no competition to force TWC to upgrade their service
11/20/2008 11:38:22 AM
so is this U-Verse thing better than TWC?
11/20/2008 2:17:06 PM
^no, see comment above.
11/20/2008 2:26:57 PM
why do you see it as no competition, thats all I can see it as...why else would TWC be scrambling to lock customers into the 2 year contracts?
11/20/2008 3:30:35 PM
because U-VERSE sucks. Don't be fooled, its not FIOS
11/20/2008 3:32:15 PM
instead of making your statements, follow it up with stats and reasons...
11/20/2008 3:46:56 PM
i wouldn't count on ATT to bring the competition.. but i guess its better than nothing.
11/20/2008 3:49:19 PM
11/20/2008 3:51:37 PM
U-VERSE sucks. I didn't say AT&T sucks. Last I checked AT&T provided more services then just U-VERSE
11/20/2008 5:28:17 PM
11/20/2008 5:38:48 PM
it's not cheaper and only marginally faster. their max upload is 1.5mb
11/20/2008 5:57:57 PM
TWC's max upload is .5mb
11/20/2008 6:13:40 PM
^no its not. Check business class.
11/20/2008 6:52:04 PM
(this thread demands discussion of substance, rather than guys having a pissing contest)Is fiber a shared pipe, like cable? Or is it dedicated, like DSL?
11/20/2008 9:05:21 PM
Would you please explain what sucks about U-Verse? I asked you in the other thread and you didn't answer. People have asked you multiple times in here now and you don't answer. I don't need fiber to my house. To the node with VDSL to the house for the same speeds, channels, and QoS as TWC for a lot cheaper sounds great to me. If there really is something shitty about the service, why don't you let us know.
11/20/2008 9:24:12 PM
11/20/2008 10:33:14 PM
what's the difference between WDMs and other TLAs?
11/21/2008 12:36:23 AM
WMDs?
11/21/2008 7:02:39 AM
11/21/2008 8:19:57 AM
I should adjust what I said earlier. It's more similar to cable modems except the shared link between you and the central office (fiber) supports more bandwidth then the sum of the nodes. Once you get into the CO though, you will hit aback plane bottle neck. Same thing that would happen with DSL.[Edited on November 21, 2008 at 3:01 PM. Reason : .]

my parents got u-verse in cleveland and my dad is all about it. says the internet is much quicker and likes the tv options better
11/21/2008 5:10:47 PM
FYI, the Television side of AT&T U-Verse is powered by Microsoft MediaRoom technology. http://www.microsoftmediaroom.com/
11/21/2008 5:54:17 PM
AT&T truck in the neighborhood today. Talked to the tech since he was working in my yard. He said in 3 months it would be available for us.
12/6/2008 6:34:42 PM
it is now saying that uverse is available in my area!! woo, i'm signing up.if you choose the U200 package or higher, you get $200 cash back - mention code EXTRAGIFT and you'll get $25 more.
12/6/2008 7:01:01 PM
That's great, what about Raleigh?? TWC annoys the hell out of me. I'd love to get U-VERSE.
12/6/2008 8:33:50 PM
^ Awesome! We know exactly where you live, guess we'll sign up too

12/7/2008 1:44:39 PM
Where can you find the pricing? Why do they hide this so much?
12/7/2008 1:49:32 PM
^ So they can get you to enter a zipcode and, if it's available in your area, they can give you pricing that is custom-tailored to your area. This way they can charge higher prices in areas with less competition and lower prices in area with more competition.
12/7/2008 1:52:20 PM
^^^ How did you find out it was available in the first place? Thats why I was asking your zipcode, because before their website shit the bed, it was saying it wasn't avail in my zipcode in SW Cary.
12/7/2008 3:06:31 PM
U-verse isn't going to be a major bandwidth increase over current DSL because U-verse isn't going to upgrade your neighborhood infrastructure to deliver increased bandwidth to your home. You'll still be using a copper connection to the neighborhood switch, and that copper connection will still have quite a low bandwidth cap when compared to fiber to the home, or DOCSIS3.0.The point of U-verse more or less currently is that its ATT's triple play implementation: bringing voice, data and video over one line to your house. Its TV implementation is slightly better then FiOS, actually, in that its true IPTV.It doesn't 'suck' and it actually would force competition on TWC because U-Verse roll outs mirror the bandwidth of current TWC caps in the Triangle area, but with TV options that could, in theory, be completely ala carte. The problem with U-Verse is that its theoretical bandwidth cap is lower then both Cable and FiOS.
12/7/2008 5:15:39 PM
I thought UVerse was FIOS rebranded.
12/7/2008 5:45:38 PM
^^^when it was up before, i put in my address and it said i was qualified^^i'm quite happy with 18mbps, and i have heard numerous accounts that they can indeed deliver 18mbps.^wrong
12/7/2008 6:13:31 PM
LOLz @ Quinn .... Don't ever say working at alu never gave you anything. U just recited a play by play of how GPON works.
12/7/2008 7:29:50 PM
The DSL speeds are more then adequate from u verse. The fiber link to the neighborhood makes the CO right there. If it wasnt how could they pull off IPTV.
12/7/2008 9:20:38 PM
RARRRRR!!!
12/7/2008 11:20:07 PM
AT&T truck working at several boxes in my North Raleigh neighborhood on Saturday... about 4-5 hours that I saw.
12/8/2008 12:46:26 AM
okay, this isn't making me too confident in u-versehow hard is it to get your fucking website, your principal source of new customers, back up and running?it's been DAYS
12/8/2008 7:03:04 PM
Dudeit maybe IPTVBut its still the same channels that suck on any other delivery mode.I dont know why you're so pumped for this.
12/8/2008 7:16:54 PM
placebo, change of pace, and grass is greener all come to mind
12/9/2008 8:06:43 AM
Any luck anyone?
12/10/2008 10:27:14 PM
Negative. Also - Just a question for you all before I call the phone company. Here is my situation - I got Vonage a few years ago and that's working fine. Last December when we installed some new electrical the green phone box was removed to make room for some other stuff and now I can not find it. I am now selling my house and I need to have it put back up I would assume. Will they come out and do that for free? All the wiring is still there I guess I just need the junction box.
