The title explains it pretty well. It's a fairly loud solid state buzzing/humming/ringing sound.

The sound is somewhat annoying, but I'm more concerned about safety-- is it a fire hazard?

iirc when this happened to mine I fixed it with shielded cables, i don't think it is a safety issue just audio interference
