So according to an article in this morning's Technician (http://www.technicianonline.com/news/plans_advance_for_centennial_dorms ), there will be dorms on Centennial after all. Anyone been keeping up with this? Last I heard, which was admittedly a while ago, the stance was "no dorms on Centennial". Assuming they put a dining hall out there and don't make the students schlep all the way to main campus just to eat, sounds like it might be a good idea, especially for non-freshman engineers and textiles students.Though one quote does disturb me a bit: "We know where it will be -- inside 'the oval'..." I certainly hope he said 'inside' when he meant 'on', not inside as "in the middle of". The oval is supposed to be a grassy area like the Court of NC; dropping a bunch of apartment buildings in the middle of it would completely ruin one of the focal points of Centennial. Not to mention it's really not that wide an area, so they'd take up pretty much the entire thing.

well, with the housing slump, the condo sales prolly aren't looking that great--they may as well put something there[Edited on November 13, 2008 at 11:23 AM. Reason : although i agree they shouldn't just plop it down in the middle]
11/13/2008 11:18:42 AM
in meaning a part of I would assume
11/13/2008 11:24:39 AM
I thought this was gonna be about Centennial Village http://www.universityrenter.com/ncsu/CentennialVillage/overview.htmlI, too, hope they leave that oval alone.

dorms on centennial was the plan all alongthe idea is to make it like a completely seperate campus with all the engineering students (and textiles too i guess) over there. they'll have dorms, dining halls, all that. the way i understand it, an engineering student won't have much need to ever come on main campus.the girl:guy ratio is gonna suck for the poor bastards that enter engineering in several years.[Edited on November 13, 2008 at 12:15 PM. Reason : .]
11/13/2008 12:15:21 PM
^except for humanity courses and PE'sFTL
11/13/2008 1:20:09 PM
^this is true. Maybe they will give PE credits for hiking your ass all the way to your humanities(and what about the math and science too)?? Not to mention that if you needed the library or something
11/13/2008 1:30:26 PM
i hope they don't put dorms on centennial. i love being one of 31 townhomes/residents out there. campus is so quiet and peaceful and is wonderful for jogging and enjoying the nature trails.
11/13/2008 1:30:41 PM
^ what are those selling for these days? I came fairly close to buying one several years ago, and decided that the commute was too far. just curious about the appreciation.
11/13/2008 2:34:32 PM
11/13/2008 4:04:54 PM
They are selling for $250+ now...My neighbor had hers listed for 3 weeks and got $256k and was asking $265k.I bought mine in January of 2004 for $203k
11/13/2008 4:07:51 PM
I'd wait and sell in a few years as the economy improves.
11/13/2008 4:11:43 PM
these places will appreciate regardless of the economy. there are only 31 units and lots of student's parents as well as other adults want to purchase these. they are priced under $300,000 and will continue to sell like hotcakes.
11/13/2008 4:14:44 PM
There are only 31 units now, but I believe the long-term plan still has them resuming construction on the townhomes, though perhaps not building out to the original extent.[Edited on November 13, 2008 at 4:22 PM. Reason : they'll still appreciate, just saying]
11/13/2008 4:22:23 PM
Damn, Luckadoo was there when I was there over 10 years ago...
11/13/2008 4:24:53 PM
there will be about 300 of them over the next 3-4 years. craig davis just re-submitted plans on over 150+ units to begin early next year. they just have to pre-sell 50% before they start each building (5 per building usually). I bought mine before he had broken ground, giving me mad incentives, which makes mine worth $265k easy.
11/13/2008 4:32:47 PM
aren't these the 99 (95?) year lease townhouses--so what happens to them at the end of the lease?
11/13/2008 5:38:07 PM
they'll be tearing down sullivan and lee in a few years too
11/13/2008 7:13:56 PM
Dorms from what I read = apartments like WV.And the ratio wont be that bad engineering = guys, textiles = girls. and we all live together
11/13/2008 7:23:57 PM
yeah, i doubt if ncsu will ever build more hall or suite style dorms. everyone hates them.pretty sure they'll replace sullivan and lee with WV type housing
11/13/2008 7:26:46 PM
west virginia?
11/13/2008 7:43:41 PM
yes, incest-friendly on-campus housing
11/13/2008 8:51:32 PM
11/13/2008 8:58:31 PM
compared to a wolf village style apartment?surely you would prefer the apt.
11/13/2008 9:47:34 PM
agreed
11/13/2008 9:54:47 PM
except that they cost $texas and you could get a much much better real apartment near campus for cheaper
NC Sausage UniversityWhat guy would want to live in the engineering dorms??I guess it would be cool if you were a social mal-adjusted WoW player but for any normal student that would blow majorly. Just having the majority of my classes on centennial felt like a shaft on part of my college experience being submersed in active campus life. The only redeeming factor for classes on centennial is the new technology and the convenience factor.
11/13/2008 9:56:05 PM
^^and you meet like a shit ton less people

i never lived on campus...i wish i would have for at least a semester or something
11/13/2008 9:59:19 PM
engineering dorms what a joke lolI like my career path but i try to have interests and hobbies outside of talking about technical engineering shit and video games.
11/13/2008 10:01:23 PM
apartment style housing would suck for your first year, i like halls and large suites for meeting new people.
11/13/2008 10:45:20 PM
they said it would be for sophomores and above. WV right now is juniors and above, unless you are a junior/above and specifically request a sophomore roomie.
11/14/2008 6:48:23 PM
I would argue that your first and for some, even your second year, should be spent in a regular everyday dorm. The social opportunities and lessons learned in that environment will never be echoed again in most students' lifetimes.
11/14/2008 10:30:41 PM
i agree with the 1 year...or at least 1 semester part...and the social opportunities part...but 2 years?? no way...and lessons learned? not sure about that one either
11/14/2008 10:40:14 PM
11/15/2008 12:39:21 AM
hence the "3-4 years" part
11/15/2008 12:44:51 AM
you are wrong. if they build buildings with 4-6 units, they have to sell 2-3 per building before breaking ground. this will happen ever 4-6 weeks. trust me, i know.
11/15/2008 2:25:11 AM
Dorms with 80-20 M-F ratio are a terrible idea.
11/15/2008 5:02:00 AM
yeah, because dudes will just turn gay or something
11/15/2008 5:09:47 AM
11/15/2008 11:20:03 AM
whtmike2kwhere do you see that said? Im thinking you got that off of something else... As that sounds like private apartments, and these will be university owned.

Hall style dorms are awesome, I lived in Owen my freshman year and loved it.
11/20/2008 12:18:23 PM
Do u know whats better than hall style dorms??Engineering dorms so u can be saturated with the nerdiness of your engineering friends and not get distracted by those people with boobs aka girls! Hopefully they ban frats to we wouldn't want any obnoxious freshman frat guys being rowdy getting drunk on a Saturday night ruining your study of Dynamics or breaking your concentration of the current World of Warcraft raid!Perhaps the dorms will even come with a few variety of air freshners such as- Intel clean room computer smell- Curry Indian foreign exchange student scent- Unshowered for a week computer programmer smell- Must of gear grease
11/21/2008 8:38:45 AM
And free WoW subscriptions for all!
11/21/2008 11:13:32 AM
Folks, they're not going to be for freshmen. It's going to basically be Wolf Village - Centennial Campus Edition. So if guys choose to live there, that's their thing. It's not like they're going to be forced to. Theoretically they should know what they're getting into. And there might be a few Textiles girls to keep things interesting...
11/21/2008 1:27:07 PM
oh boy! somehow i doubt any of the good looking textile girls would live in the engineering dorm. Unless they are one of those diamond in the roughs that are naturally beautiful yet are self-proclaimed nerds.Live there if its your thing but i'm still going to laugh. Perhaps the only concession I will make is grad students. I would say it is understandable for a grad student who pretty much lives on campus anyway to live next to the EB buildings.Otherwise have fun with your LAN parties.
11/21/2008 4:25:11 PM
jesus, this guy's really got it out for centennial campus housing.
