It's aggravating. Bush sat on his hands for 8 years refusing to veto any of the republicans' crazy spending bills...but now finds his way to interject himself into the justice system pardoning low-level drug sellers, a bank embezzler, a food-stamp thief and a liar amongst others.

if he aint pardoned those 2 border agents by now he might as well let them stay in jail[Edited on November 25, 2008 at 4:44 AM. Reason : cause it would look even more dumb to have let them stay in for a year+ and THEN let them out]

Just check the pardons with Holder first.

i don't know much about the case, but just to play devil's advocate, shouldn't people in positions of power be held to a higher standard?
1/19/2009 6:04:44 PM
They weren't given special treatment. They were convicted and sentenced to 10 years. Bush commuted the sentence and it looks like each will serve a little more than two years, which seems like more than enough for what they "did."I've been getting the "Free Ramos and Compean" emails for the past year or so, so I'm glad they are getting out.[Edited on January 19, 2009 at 9:58 PM. Nothing like shooting an unarmed man in the back then covering it up. That sure deserves a commutation.

Nothing like shooting a fellow hunter in the face then getting said shot hunter to apologize. That sure deserves respect. No, srsly, it does.

Actually, the former border agents have already served two years each in prison. In addition, what they technically received was a commuted sentence, not a full pardon. Therefore, while they're getting out of prison, they've still got the stigma of being convicted felons and their records with CBP. They will probably never be able to get another job with a law enforcement agency or any federal agency ever again. From what I read in the Washington Post this morning, they say that there was strong bipartisan support for the commuting of their sentences including the entire Texas Congressional delegation (both Republicans and Democrats).

I could care less about shooting a fucking drug smuggler in the ass, it's the covering up part that is bad. If I remember correctly the smuggler successful settled with the government for a few cool million too. Retarded. You try to enter the country illegally carrying drugs to sell, it's open season on your ass. From what I have read of the case, the agents probably wouldn't have been so harshly punished if not for the cover up. I figure 2 years in prison is more than enough. Hell, Nancy fucking Pelosi agreed with Bush on commuting the sentence.
