What percentages will we be looking at?I'm as cynical as they come. Living near NCCU, I see regular massive crowds of angry Black Democrats, and I smile every time knowing that the vast majority of them will not vote.I predicted to my wife a few weeks ago that fewer NCCU students will vote in this election than marched in the NAACP rally in Raleigh a while ago. They march. They yell. They wear T-Shirts and campaign door-to-door. But they don't vote.On ABCNews, they just showed black turnout in VA. 20% of blacks voted in VA in 2004. So far, it looks like the turnout is 21% in 2008.Will this trend bear out in other states? What causes this? White turnout in VA was over 60% in '04 and '08 in VA - why are African-Americans so much less likely to vote, even now?[Edited on November 4, 2008 at 7:24 PM. Reason : a]

11/4/2008 7:23:27 PM
are you kiddin' - a brotha runnin' fo' presdent? We be o' there in da early monin'
11/4/2008 7:26:10 PM
So you're not big on black people voting, I take it?
11/4/2008 7:27:55 PM
no, im not big on them showing up in droves just because a black guy is runningI don't care for racist behavior on either side
11/4/2008 7:30:27 PM
With a half-brotha running.. I dont see how Mccain can win Ohio.
11/4/2008 7:30:54 PM
AND THE LORD ZEUS SMILEDKNOWING THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEM WILL NOT VOTE
11/4/2008 7:31:20 PM
^^^^I'm not big on idiots voting. The NCCU crowd certainly counts in that group, along with ignorant Republicans with the 'dey tuk are jawbs!1!@' and 'Git dem terrsts' mantras. The more any of those folks stay home the better off we are.[Edited on November 4, 2008 at 7:32 PM. Reason : a]

we can only hope they continue being lazy like in years past
11/4/2008 7:32:24 PM
11/4/2008 7:37:53 PM
95% of them, yes.If it's a consolation - there is a similarly high percentage of white voters who are idiots. I'm an equal-opportunity hater.[Edited on November 4, 2008 at 7:41 PM. Reason : a]
11/4/2008 7:40:06 PM
wow...and wow
11/4/2008 7:41:11 PM
idiots may be a strong word, but if i voted for someone because of their race, id be labeled a racist...
11/4/2008 7:43:01 PM
these guys make me want to [facepalm] with how they're ridiculously poorly they're articulating things, but come on, Boone...nobody is saying that being black implies that you're an idiot, and nobody is saying that he doesn't want black people to vote because they're black (he doesn't want them to vote because they statistically, as a group, don't vote for the candidates he supports).
11/4/2008 8:00:35 PM
no, i don't want them to vote for a candidate because of the color of his skinbig difference
11/4/2008 8:04:56 PM
Hey TULIPlovr Fuck you
11/4/2008 8:08:00 PM
Hey terpball,No thanks.
11/4/2008 8:15:38 PM
95% of blacks vote dem when the candidate is white. 99% of blacks vote dem when the candidate is black.
11/4/2008 8:21:29 PM
So really, only that 4% that normally voted republican is racist.
11/4/2008 8:22:51 PM
^ ROFL
11/4/2008 8:49:59 PM
^^^^^ what the fuck, dude? are you totally dense, hypersensitive, prone to jump to conclusions, or a combination of the above?i mean, yeah, these clowns are conveying their point in about the most piss poor, ineffective, clumsy way that I can imagine, but you win no points for not being sharp or levelheaded enough to piece together the intent (either that, or you assume racism in a guilty until prove innocent manner).
11/4/2008 9:21:20 PM
One of the guys i work with whose been living here for 50 years said taht usually the polls have a handful of blacks. This election he said close to 1/3 of the crowd in line were black.
11/4/2008 9:23:57 PM
they came out of the woodwork because it is a black candidate, no one can argue that its a shame that people who wouldn't have otherwise voted are doing so exclusively because of race, that's not ignorant, that's a fucking fact
11/4/2008 10:21:49 PM
American blacks have showed up to vote for non-black people for years and years.
11/4/2008 10:40:16 PM
not in these large numbers though
11/4/2008 10:41:20 PM
When have American whites showed up to vote for largely or exclusively non-white candidates?
11/4/2008 10:43:19 PM
when has a minority ran for president?
11/4/2008 10:46:27 PM
Context matters. That's the point. Voting for race has a different meaning depending on the circumstances.
11/4/2008 10:51:21 PM
so because it's two white males running for office, it gives an excuse for an entire race not to get out and vote?
11/4/2008 10:52:56 PM
11/4/2008 10:54:04 PM
insisted on what? Them not voting or that being the excuse for it?
11/4/2008 10:55:51 PM
11/4/2008 11:01:31 PM
^ I saw plenty of white folks on my ballot. I imagine it depends on your area.
11/4/2008 11:03:35 PM
why would a black person voting for a black candidate be any different than somebody voting for a candidate because they were born in the same state? VP Candidates used to be picked based almost entirely on this latter basis.
11/4/2008 11:11:43 PM
it's not thatit's that black people voted in record numbers only because a black candidate was running whereas they would have not voted if it was two white dudes as usual
11/4/2008 11:49:49 PM
its not that its that arkansans voted in record numbers only because an arkansan candidate was running whereas they would not have not voted if it was two mid-atlantic dudes as usual.there i fixed it for you
11/4/2008 11:52:49 PM
It is a fact that African-American voters registered in record numbers for this election, and at a much higher percentage than any other race. That's all I'm saying.
11/4/2008 11:59:15 PM
So far the African-American turn-out is like 2% higher than 2004.So there goes your theory.Obama didn't win because of racism. Face it, already.
11/5/2008 12:01:23 AM
^I said registered to vote. Nothing about actually getting to the poles.
11/5/2008 12:03:20 AM
wtf does registering to vote matter if they didn't actually vote?
11/5/2008 12:04:09 AM
i dont know who was black and who wasn't all i know is that EVERY FUCKING INTERVIEW with an Obama supporter was some old ass black woman who has never voted but had some kind of "revelation" and decided to cast a vote this timei guess i got tired of hearing the same shitif they had a bunch of intelligent people of all races talking about issues instead of how proud they were that were were "making history" i think i could have respected that
11/5/2008 12:07:40 AM
Maybe you should stop watching Fox News?
11/5/2008 12:12:23 AM
^the same was seen on comedy central
11/5/2008 12:14:03 AM
and NBC for fucking hours
11/5/2008 12:33:13 AM
Well hell, as conservatives, I'm sure you all know that media coverage is perfectly representative of reality.
11/5/2008 12:34:09 AM
no butfuck, you get sick of seeing 10% of the population get 70% of the airtimeand is it just me, or are like 50% of the news people black now?
11/5/2008 12:36:03 AM
ya'll are really coming out of the woodwork tonight.
11/5/2008 12:38:22 AM
^at least you didn't say "you people"
11/5/2008 12:39:40 AM
you people is code for "blacks."ya'll is code for "ya'll racists."
11/5/2008 12:40:47 AM
Interesting...We have voted years, we voted big here. Sometimes you need something you can believe in to step up. Until you walked in another man shoes...but anyways...please continue discussion. There are so many angles, thoughts, theories, etc that can come from this. I got my belief. III
