With and annual income of 55000 a person ranks 57,087,865 or top .95% in the world. Pretty damn impressive. Or sad to think that 90.05% of the world makes less than that.

You mean 99.05%?

Dude, something like 70% of people earn less than $2 a day, which translates to what, a whopping $730 pa

Mind-blowing facts.

Quote :
"All you have to do is make a choice.

$8 could buy you 15 organic apples OR 25 fruit trees for farmers in Honduras to grow and sell fruit at their local market.

$30 could buy you an ER DVD Boxset OR a First Aid kit for a village in Haiti.

$73 could buy you a new mobile phone OR a new mobile health clinic to care for AIDS orphans in Uganda.

$2400 could buy you a second generation High Definition TV OR schooling for an entire generation of school children in an Angolan village."

Quote :
"Three billion people live on less than $2 per day while 1.3 billion get by on less than $1 per day. Seventy percent of those living on less than $1 per day are women."

Quote :
"When is 225 = 2,500,000,000? The world's 225 richest people now have a combined wealth of $1 trillion. That's equal to the combined annual income of the world's 2.5 billion poorest people."

Quote :
"Three decades ago, the people in well-to-do countries were 30 times better off than those in countries where the poorest 20 percent of the world's people live. By 1998, this gap had widened to 82 times."

Quote :
"Microsoft CEO Bill Gates has more wealth than the bottom 45 percent of American households combined."

If they will do good with that money, then they deserve it. That's just a Christian perspective. From a capitalist perspective, if they worked hard to earn it, then they deserve it. From a survivalist perspective, if they were able to get their hands on it, they deserve it.

In what system do they not deserve it?

I seriously heard this lady arguing with the people at Time Warner one time that they could not charge her a deposit or make her pay her bad debt to them because she had filed bankruptcy. She was demanding that they turn her TV on (digital cable, HBO, & house phone) with no deposit.

"You are the 824,785,999 richest person in the world!
You're in the TOP 13.74% richest people in the world!

How do you feel about that? A bit richer we hope. Richer and ready to give some of your newly found wealth to those who need it most. It not hard - just slip your hand in your pocket and pull out something special. Something that can help redress the balance - and also make you feel uncommonly good. Many peoples lives could be happier if you donated just one hour's salary (approx $4.27 - UK estimate).

All you have to do is make a choice.

$8 could buy you 15 organic apples OR 25 fruit trees for farmers in Honduras to grow and sell fruit at their local market.

$30 could buy you an ER DVD Boxset OR a First Aid kit for a village in Haiti.

a ph.d. in india makes what a third of what you will here? did you work 3 times harder than he did?

is bill gates' personal contribution to society greater than the combined contributions of the billion or so poorest people?

you can say a lot of positive things about capitalism, but to say that it's fair is ludicrous

It's the most "fair" economy that has ever existed. Bitch and moan all you want, but guess what? Wealth is spread more now that it has ever been in history. There will always be rich people and poor people. The best you can do is work toward a future where the poor people have the same opportunities to become rich.
