I usually look at campmor.com. Sometimes under the hot deals, you can get a triclimate jacket for $200.

yes, they are trendy and expensive....but they are very good jackets
11/2/2008 12:34:16 PM
Their high end jackets are excellent if you are a skier, climber, etc.if you just want to look cool and wear the logo, get one of the cheap, shitty ones from dick's or ebay.

i have a couple of arcteryx jackets. they hold up well
11/3/2008 10:46:35 AM
cloudveil, marmot, patagonia, mountain hardware.i've had great results from each, but TNF quality has been shitty for a while. it blows.but to answer your question,http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/100000017/Womens-3-in-1-Jackets.html#app=price~+group~100000017+brand~88+sortby~+cat~12+subcat~42+offset~+on_sale~+page_name~Womens-3-in-1-Jackets[Edited on November 3, 2008 at 12:11 PM. the only people who buy north face jackets are those with no money and no experiencenorth face gear is largely overpriced...there are soooooo many other brands that aren't crappy
11/3/2008 4:20:32 PM
I like how someone asks a simple question in the lounge and it turns into a fashion debate...Personally, I've had my Northface fleece jacket for 6 years and I wear it everytime I ski and it's not insanely cold... still going strong and keeping my warm/dry...
11/3/2008 4:23:39 PM
for the price, it shouldbut those of us who use gear on a regular basis for things a bit more intense than simple skiing know that north face sucks donkey balls and it IS more of a fashion statement than a piece of useful apparel
11/3/2008 4:50:27 PM
what are the superhardcore activities that you do that make snow skiing a categorically simple activity?i'm dying to know.

^^^One of my BASE jumping buddies is one of the top marketing gurus for North Face. We were out tracking positive walls in the Swiss alps about a month ago. He is cool as hell and they even promote more fringe outdoor activities, like BASE jumping. Let me know if you were doing anything more intense than that.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RldyNrOGRmMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvRlBAHV1OQ&feature=related^ that shit right there is pretty crazy.[Edited on November 3, 2008 at 5:10 PM. please god dont make arcteryx out to be a north-face-like status symbol just because they are expensivealso, high end jackets for base jumping? you're FALLING, what kind of jacket do you need?? maybe the HIKING you do to get to the top of whatever you're jumping off of, but thats hiking, not BASE jumping[Edited on November 3, 2008 at 6:17 PM. 11/3/2008 6:14:40 PM
why do you need a jacket in a rainforest? I'm not being sarcastic, I seriously want to know
11/3/2008 6:28:59 PM
rainforest...you get soaked, and half the time it's like it's just a mist that won't go away (the andes were mostly like this, due to the altitude)...having a thin, waterproof jacket that is also breathable AND will hold up against physical abuse is keythat type of quality isn't cheap (nor would i expect it to be)[Edited on November 3, 2008 at 6:35 PM. 11/3/2008 6:34:30 PM
yea I figured something like that, I guess I was just thinking about a hot and sticky type environment where a coat wouldnt be needed
11/3/2008 7:35:33 PM
I have a North Face jacket that I leave on my coat hanger at work so my office mate doesn't think that it's available and try to use it.
11/3/2008 8:50:03 PM
^^ you'd be surprised how a good jacket will keep you dryer by keeping the rain out and reduce sweat with good ventingthough i've yet to find anything that doesn't feel hot when you've got a full pack on your back
11/3/2008 8:55:16 PM
On a related note, I tore my Marmot trying to fix the subwoofer on my boat. It got caught on a piece of unsanded fiberglass and ripped right open. I didn't even end up with a good scar to show off for it.
11/3/2008 9:02:43 PM
marmot is the heat (i have two). plus i have a nice mammut ice climbing hoodie that is reallly warm. imho north face makes a decent product, but similar to burton for snowboarding you are paying extra for that name recognition.
