see the worst part isat the station, the printer that prints our tear sheets every call is a dot matrixit usually starts printing like 5 seconds before the tones actually go off in the station (b/c the tone-out radio has to recognize the 2 tones)so whenever i hear a dot matrix printer, i instinctively jump up out of my seatthis is not a good thing when in car dealerships and doctors offices
10/29/2008 11:42:41 AM

10/29/2008 12:00:59 PM
I used to make those little springey things where you fold both sides together.[Edited on October 29, 2008 at 12:04 PM. Reason : ^ jinx]
10/29/2008 12:04:29 PM
I used to love making helixes out of two pieces of the side paper you'd tear off them.
10/29/2008 12:07:03 PM
It was so easy to print banners on there too because the pages were already attached to each other. Too bad they was always in black and white.
10/29/2008 12:08:21 PM

There was one at wal-mart in the back room that printed so fast it needed 2 fans to keep the ink dry before it folded behind the machine. It was amazing. Had 6 printer heads to keep up with it.

we've got one at work attached to the main fire protection panel. it records the alarms and such. i was told they use dot matrix printers because they're extremely reliable and very low maintenance.

We just bought two new $5kish printers to replace our old dot-matrix ones for shipment packing slips. The new ones are dot-matrix, too. I know there had to have been a near-war between the head of IT and the accounting/invoicing department which is made up of almost all old ladies who cant stand change.

Dad had one on the Tandy 1000 TX in my room. One evening he had to print some 200 page job for work. It ran half the night. They let me sleep on the couch and then brought me upstairs to my room when it finally finished. Still remember that shit like it was yesterday and not 20 years ago.
