gears.

any idea as to what the problem is.

delay between putting it in "D" and first engaging was getting longer.

once in gear and warmed up it is fine.

goes into reverse fine.

valve body?

not sure why any of that matters,

just bought it a few weeks ago to replace a different work van (ford aerostar) because the tranny crapped out on it. wasnt worth fixing.

this is a 94 aerostar with 90k and the 3.0L v6 4-speed auto

i changed the filter/fluid, no luck.
the replaced fluid was fine, not much gunk in the pan around the magnet.
most days there is a level 8 retard who is going to get fired because he creeps me out, but unrelated to transmission problem.

wait a second. you had an aerostar and junked it because the transmission went out on you? btw, aerostars are known for transmission failure. my dad had one when they first came out. 3 transmissions later he got rid of the piece of shit.

anyway, so you went out and bought another one?

congratulations. you bought one with a failing transmission. do yourself a huge favor. change the fluid again. this time when you add the new fluid mix about 2 handfuls of sawdust in with the new fluid. this will fix your problem temporarily but long enough for you to sell it so you can buy a gmc savana.

what a weird reply. yes I am aware that aerostars have weak trannies. obviously. however they are all hit or miss. some go 300k without issue. makes sense to buy a similar vehicle when you have a parts vehicle. you were full of good advice though. ill be sure to try you 50's style repair out. sawdust is sure to unstick the valve.

^dan the man knows his shit. i suggest you listen to him as well.

truth hurts sometimes. i could've beat around the bush and told him he bought an awesome vehicle and to expect years of reliable service but the history of it proves otherwise and he should've already known that.

most of them are hit. and i'd be willing to wager that only 1% have gone 300K with no issues.

i can understand your logic on this one. however, your parts vehicle already won't do you any good in this case.

i was trying to help you sell the pos without having to replace the transmission. yes, it's morally wrong to do it and karma is a bitch but money is tight these days. besides, it's the buyer's responsibility to have the vehicle inspected for a reason.

One other solution which might work in a pinch: SeaFoam makes their TransTune additive. Follow the directions on the can. It might just do something...maybe.

What's odd is that reverse in automatic transmissions usually requires the highest line pressure, and in a lot of trannies I've seen, it's the first gear to drop out. I had a '64 Dodge with the A904 tranny that would intermittently NOT shift into reverse when hot.

My guess is this: you might have a solenoid failure or sticking spool valve. The TransTune will help with the sticky spool valve. Solenoid replacement is the only thing you can do if that fails.

But to really know what's going on, you need to have powertrain error codes pulled, and then check line pressure and apply pressures at provided test ports. If this is an AOD-E, I think it doesn't have any governor, so you won't be able to test governor pressure. Any other tranny with a centrifugal governor, you can do this. We're only getting to the beginning of troubleshooting automatics right now, though.

BTW, that K&W shit in the blue can is useless as tits on a boar hog. Contains isopropyl alcohol to swell the seals.

this is the a4ld tranny.

found a shop that will actually diagnose and fix the problem, rather than force a rebuild like lot of them try and do now.

^thanks, wish i had posted this a couple days ago. cant really afford for it not be be in service.
