10/23/2008 10:25:22 PM
I've never been there but want to camp there somtime.Got a couple questions:Does Uwharrie have nice hiking trails and scenery? Can you get down the easy trails in a stock 4th gen 4wd 4Runner without any body damage?I'm an offroading n00b but would like to try the trails. The only experience I have is in an F-150 going up and down bulldozer lines on a few mountain fires...I didn't care too much about scratching and denting a forest service truck [Edited on October 24, 2008 at 2:02 AM. Reason : in a 4wd 4runner with factory highway tires ]
10/24/2008 2:01:30 AM
Be sure to update us on the trails when you get back
10/24/2008 10:54:40 AM
not going to make it guess

Just got back, tired as hell but I will say we had a lot of fun as usual when it rains. Rained a little on us during the day Friday, then rained a bunch after midnight all the way into the day on saturday. Falls Dam was fun, although I got a little carried away in some of the holes. Slab pile had a monster rutted out tank trap that was interesting, the rock below Kodak on Rocky Mtn Loop is a bitch now, so "I tried to jump it", ended up only bending the frame and winched the rest of the way. Went up Kodak several times, they seem to have been doing a lot of grooming there. The chute on Dutch John and the long rocky hillclimb on Dickey Bell is a little more dug out than last year, almost flopped the truck twice on DB. Couldnt get to Daniel, everyone else was scared after some jackass rolled his Discovery there Fri night with his 4yr old son in the backseat.

10/26/2008 1:15:24 PM
damn, glad yall had fun. was it a rover event you went to? I tried like hell to get ready by saturday, but found another leak in the cooling system on the cruiser. And fucking parts on fj80's are money.
10/26/2008 5:09:02 PM
After next weekend I should have my cheep cherokee ready for Uwharrie.Where's a good place to get a telescoping driveshaft made for my SYE?
10/26/2008 5:13:06 PM
get a front xj shaft and get it extended. that or buy one from high angle driveline, tom woods, etc.
10/26/2008 9:20:04 PM
SO lets start planning one last TWW Uwharrie trip before the end of the season?
10/31/2008 9:40:40 AM

11/1/2008 7:35:03 PM
either of those dates works for me.
11/1/2008 7:35:17 PM
w3rd
11/1/2008 11:26:49 PM
let's go on the 16th
11/2/2008 11:06:06 PM
By this weekend I should have:8.8 installed in rearRegeared both the D30 and 8.8 to 4.88 with an Aussie locker in the front and welded the 8.8Installed the SYE in the transfer caseIf I can pull this off, and get a new driveshaft made next week (Dont know how long this will take?), I may be down for Nov. 15/16 too.
11/3/2008 8:29:55 AM
you should also have some spare rear shafts too!
11/3/2008 6:45:11 PM
^more like a spare carrier, that's the weak point in a welded 8.8. still a decently strong axle though, it just gets a lot better with a full case locker.^^go get some receiver tubing from agri supply or somewhere and get Jeepman to weld you up a drive shaft right quick. or, either of the local driveshaft shops should be able to take care of it within a couple of days (triangle or fleetpride).
11/3/2008 6:59:45 PM
if yall go to harlan i could meet yall up there for thanksgivingyall need to come out to wooley's, its only an hour from my house, and you're likely to meet up with the extreme 4x4 and trucks guys there, always some great rigs^ the local crew from savannah
11/3/2008 7:42:41 PM
there's tons of good stuff in tn. i wish it wasn't such a haul to get across the mountains. harlan ain't no weekend drive either...
11/3/2008 7:50:17 PM
I just picked up a front XJ driveshaft for next to nothing. I'll have to see if I'll need to lengthen it or not once I get the 8.8 up underneath it.
11/3/2008 8:04:06 PM
hell, wooleys is a 7 hour drive tops from raleighwood
11/3/2008 8:31:47 PM
11/3/2008 9:14:20 PM
wooly's is aprox 9 and a half hours from raleigh, they don't allow night riding, and their website says admission per person is $10/day.
11/3/2008 9:19:22 PM
sounds like some BS right there
11/3/2008 9:30:57 PM
Nov. 16th, day ride, unless people want to go up sat. night and camp
11/3/2008 9:32:56 PM
im down for whatever, if people wanna camp, and there is gonna be enough of us, and people will actually fucking show up like they say- we might be able to reserve some of the group campnight rides are fun
11/3/2008 9:50:09 PM
gotta camp on the side of the trail
11/3/2008 10:27:19 PM
if igor and ryan bring the bikes group camp will be nice, not as many rangers as on the trailOR we can camp high on a trail somewhere, where the suburbans cant make it
11/3/2008 10:59:32 PM
f00l, suburbans and 'fo's roll out anywhere, fuck 4wd![Edited on November 3, 2008 at 11:15 PM. Reason : hatterass island, what!]
11/3/2008 11:14:01 PM
i've never seen a ranger where we camp on the trail
11/4/2008 12:10:24 AM
me either, and i've been using that spot for 12 years. the downside to group camp is you have to get out on the road to get to the trails. major issue with the bikes. downside about the trailside camping is you have to pack everything in, can't just get things out of the tow rig as you need.
11/4/2008 12:17:01 AM
ok works for me then
11/4/2008 8:13:39 AM
I am in too
11/4/2008 7:04:26 PM
okay so EXACTLY when are we doing this guys?
11/6/2008 10:22:17 PM
day run, nov. 16th
11/6/2008 10:31:38 PM
