Home sweet home. Shame what's happened. Used to be one of the most significant cultural centers in the country.

Though it's soon not to be the Motor City anymore, at least it's still Rock City and Hockeytown. Was noodling with the idea of moving back sometime in the next few years (since auto is not my industry).

The suburb areas are very nice places to live. This thread seems to have focused on Downtown - and yes, the assessments have been pretty accurate (for the most part).

Fortunately, you're within a four hour drive of pretty much everything else in the lower peninsula - one of the most beautiful and culturally / historically rich places in the country.

Next time you find yourself up there, go into a Coney Island and order a "2 on 1," then head north and check out Mackinaw Island for the finest chocolate fudge in the world.
