They will just use bigger bags.
10/15/2008 4:50:54 PM
and then you'll just have more drugs
10/15/2008 4:51:20 PM
Fuck that. I'm going to set up a black market operation to smuggle little plastic bags into the city. I'll be the Tony Montana of baggies.
10/15/2008 4:53:28 PM
They should ban garbage disposals while they are at it.
10/15/2008 4:53:47 PM
I always wondered what legitimate purpose those bags had.
10/15/2008 4:54:08 PM
^ Buying a few beads at a jewelry store, buttons for clothing, storing sewing utensils, whenever you want to buy just a few nails or screws at the hardware store...
10/15/2008 4:58:43 PM
you know what they should do, is just make heroin, crack, and marijuana illegal. This whole thing seems a bit backwards. oh, wait......
10/15/2008 4:59:35 PM
nails and screws won't fit in the size bags we are talking about here.
10/15/2008 5:00:34 PM
really? are all screws >= 2" in length?have you ever bought a hard drive?]
10/15/2008 5:02:22 PM
10/15/2008 5:19:00 PM
^ Exactly. They'll just use different bags. This isn't going to help the drug problem at all, and is going to be a pain in the ass for people who want to store buttons efficiently.
10/15/2008 5:21:50 PM
This will be a slight hindrance to drug dealers... but yes, they will just find something else.
10/15/2008 5:30:49 PM
Feel good legislation at work.Illinois is at the forefront of this type of bullshit. They've already given the criminals the upper hand by making it difficult, if not impossible, for law abiding citizens to own and carry handguns. We all know the gangsters no longer carry guns as a result of this legislation, right? What scares me the most is that Obama has this mindset and he could end up in that seat.POLITICIAN: "IF WE MAKE THIS ILLEGAL, THAT WILL STOP THE CRIMINALS."RANDOM PERSON: "HEY UH, AREN'T CRIMINALS, BY DEFINITION, PEOPLE WHO DON'T ABIDE BY THE LAW?"POLITICIAN: "SHUT UP SON."[Edited on October 15, 2008 at 5:39 PM. Yeah, this will prevent drug dealers from using these bags, I mean they wouldn't dare break the law......I mean, it isn't like they could buy these bags almost anywhere outside the city, or online, or wherever.
10/15/2008 5:35:57 PM
This is the stupidest shit ive heard all day, and ive heard some stupid shit today.
10/15/2008 5:37:00 PM
looks like a good time to buy stock in vials and saran wrap and aluminum foil]
10/15/2008 5:39:03 PM
I'm talking about those really small baggies. And I don't know what a hard drive has to do with these bags.
10/15/2008 6:35:53 PM
The mounting hardware (screws) usually comes in small baggies. When I buy shirts, they frequently come with a small baggie of spare buttons.Again: what does it matter if you don't have a use for little baggies? Do you think that people buying or selling heroin, crack, cocaine, marijuana, and other drugs are going to be dissuaded because small plastic baggies are illegal?P.S.: Please tell me you're trolling.
10/15/2008 6:47:59 PM
I'm not supporting the ban. I just wonder what the legit purposes are behind the bags.especially those little bags that are about the size of a thumbnail.
10/15/2008 6:49:04 PM
10/15/2008 7:59:49 PM
luckily you can make any size bag you want out of plastic wrap + twist tie.
10/15/2008 8:05:08 PM
BAN SUNLIGHT AND OXYGEN. THEY MAKE DRUGS.
10/15/2008 8:23:53 PM
I think I know what plastic bags they are talking about, and I've never gotten a button or screw in one of those.....
10/15/2008 8:32:43 PM
screwsbeadsbutton(s)LEMME GET A BAG OF DAT IDEOLOGY
10/15/2008 8:48:53 PM
no plastic bags?
10/15/2008 10:41:19 PM
And go'vt should force clothing manufacturers to start making clothes without pockets. Drugs can be carried in pockets. Pockets are bad.
10/15/2008 10:51:09 PM
everyone in spandex. then you can see the bulges of anything they may be hiding.
10/15/2008 10:53:57 PM
I love freedum USA!!!!!
10/15/2008 10:55:22 PM
^Are you being sarcastic...or don't you love freedom?
10/15/2008 11:05:45 PM
I do enjoy freedom. I was being sarcastic about how we as the US think of ourselves as the benchmark for freedom and liberty. Yet the avg American lives a day to day live restrained by all kinds of restrictions, bans, and laws. Even when the object or action targeted by the legislation has no direct impact on someone else's right to liberty and freedom. This is just another brick in the wall. The classic example are the seat belt laws.[Edited on October 15, 2008 at 11:17 PM. Reason : ,]

hey state's...err city's rights!
10/15/2008 11:29:25 PM
Cities shouldn't have a right to do this. Are they gonna have to sell special curtain rod packages in Chicago? They come with plastic bags full of hardware in the package. So did my end tables.
10/15/2008 11:37:39 PM
^ Thats how you end up on a watch list.
10/15/2008 11:39:17 PM
Cities absolutely should have a right to do this. And the rest of America should have the right to laugh hysterically at them.
10/15/2008 11:39:45 PM
i see quite a few 1"x1" bags laying on the sidewalk when i walk to work... and they're definitely from drug users. however, banning them would be fucking stupid.[Edited on October 15, 2008 at 11:40 PM. Reason : []

^^you'll just see more busted up vials on the ground instead of bags...6 one way, half dozen the other^good for you, but you must have missed the pictures i posted in this thread if you still think theres no legit use for themmaybe we should make all the plastic bags larger, to use more plastic that people can throw in the ocean and landfills?[Edited on October 15, 2008 at 11:48 PM. hell I remember one time buying those little snack bags, normal length, but short in height to divvy up some tobacco between my brother and I. We got some weird looks. Can someone answer my question about those really small bags, about the size of a thumb nail?
10/15/2008 11:58:33 PM
i perfer glass jars for weed and blow.
10/16/2008 12:00:04 AM
DONT NOBODY SELL K IN BAGGIES SON
10/16/2008 12:01:00 AM
the bags Twista linked would not fall under the ban. Even if there is a reasonable use for bags this small it is dwarfed by the actual use. Although, it's not like banning the bags will stop/curb drug use. It's probably going to make it easier to arrest or detain drug dealers though.
10/16/2008 12:23:03 AM
10/16/2008 12:28:32 AM
They appear to be at least 2 inches in width, but whatever man, you win.
10/16/2008 12:30:25 AM
^exactly how big do you think buttons and beads are?and even if a couple of the bags are more than 2" tall AND more than 2" wide, why punish any legit businesses for some bullshit ploy against drugs that simply won't work?]
10/16/2008 12:31:29 AM
The point is that nobody but drug dealers and coin collectors are using the tiny little bags. You know as well as I do that the bags you pictured are not the ones targeted. You also know that people who get arrested or detained will often speak to try to get themselves out of any perceived trouble. I don't think the ban is some fucking awesome idea, but I at least see that it has a reasonable objective. I also acknowledge that the banning of completely harmless item is terrible.[Edited on October 16, 2008 at 12:43 AM. Reason : .]
10/16/2008 12:41:25 AM
i agree with the intent of the ban, but i think its a completely pointless law...and while there are smaller bags than the ones i pictured that are obviously used for drugs, i've got some bags from hard drive screws that are probably 1" by 1.5", which would fall under the ban (btw if the bags width OR length is < 2" they're banned)...it just seems like another dumb law that won't have any practical effect...plus like many people have noted, there are plenty of other easily-available packaging options for drugs where any big dealers wouldnt have to do muchmore importantly though, someone who sells drugs for the risk of 10-20-life in prison isn't gonna be deterred by a potential $1500 fine]
10/16/2008 12:48:01 AM
next they will ban high-octane gas to thwart street racing
10/16/2008 12:52:04 AM
You know that's not a fair comparison.and I agree Twista, the law is stupid, but at least the intent makes sense.[Edited on October 16, 2008 at 1:01 AM. Reason : .]
