I'm getting married in May and wanted to get some ideas for a son/mother dance? I have a few ideas but thought it would be good to see what others may have danced to.

My husband did Louis Armstrong's "What a wonderful world"

Most guys choose that song because it's the shortest

...and it's sweet!

i've seen a few people dance to josh groban "you raise me up" (or whatever it is called) with their mothers. it is long. and a little painful. so if that is on your short list, take it off.

Afrika Bambaataa - Looking for the Perfect Beat

(put that song in the middle of your dance song so you can break out into the robot dance).

I'm also a big fan of 'Angel Eyes' by John Hiatt (Yes, it's a cover, but I like his version)

Had I danced with my mother, we would have danced to Ton Loc's Wild Thing...

which is perhaps why we did not dance

Also, our first dance was to "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys.... for obvious ironicality

[Edited on October 15, 2008 at 9:10 AM. Reason : ironicality's a word right ]

Oh, and God, we totally did that. I did the music for my own wedding, which actually worked out a hell of a lot better than some DJ doing it. There wasn't a lot of traditional or classic dance songs, but a little while in, I slowed it down a little and brought in a couple slower dance songs that got a few extra people on the floor... it progressed through 2 or 3 slow dance songs, enough to get people comfortable with being on the dance floor, then right after My Girl, you heard the toms beat down and that synth kick in... it was great. It turned into one of the best songs because everyone from our generation got up there and danced and had a good time. You should totally do it, especially if you think the people your age would appreciate having that "inside joke"

[Edited on October 15, 2008 at 9:15 AM. Reason : i will always remember that one]

I hate it when people refer to other people by name in conversation when the person they are talking to has never met and has no idea who the person is they are talking about.

and I edited each of the songs we used... the 2001 theme, Lookin in the eyes of love (first dance), and songbird (father/daughter;mother/son)...

each one I took out several minutes so they were a lot shorter.

boyz II men - song for mama... thats what I danced to with my mom when I got married this summer. It's a sweet song, and after the first or second verse we had the groomsmen go get their mothers and dance with them as well. It was a good way to get people out on the dance floor for after those set songs
