For some reason i'm a bit giddy about this.http://www.macrumors.com/2008/10/13/apple-notebook-event-rumor-roundup/

i still can't figure out when people put words like tomorrow in forum posts that will obviously be used tomorrow and it won't be tomorrow anymore - much less the days after tomorrowhell - isn't it already tomorrow in australia?
10/13/2008 6:47:02 PM
today for me is tomorrow for you, but the event is still tomorrow for me since it'll happen tomorrow for you.

i think it's about time Apple rolled out blu-ray across the board. Put it in all of their machines. That will help get the blu-ray ball rolling some more
10/13/2008 10:19:07 PM
^blu ray has no direct competitors. their ball is rolling just fine.
10/13/2008 10:48:51 PM
i doubt we'll see much bluray here. *maybe* as an option on the MBPs. I don't think there will be an HDMI port either.

[Edited on October 13, 2008 at 11:05 PM. Reason : if this is real, the black keyboard looks horrible]
10/13/2008 11:05:21 PM
^ where are the trackpad buttons?
10/13/2008 11:17:18 PM
the Macbook Air has a black keyboard. I wouldn't be surprised if it was rolled out to all models. The black bezel around the screen matches the current iMacs, which seems like a likely move. I would really like to see the bezel shrink on the Macbook and the Macbook Air. They have 13" screens, but have huge almost 1" wide bezels. If they're able to make the base smaller, they could shrink the bezels down to the ~1/2" like on the MBPs

Stolen from TUAW:"Take a look at the geotagging information for this picture. It's taken with an iPhone and was taken at 37.3231658936,-122.0148315430. A simple Google Map search shows this location is 1.6 miles from 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA. Anyone else have any insight into the relevance of this location? It appears it was taken on Stevens Creek Blvd, which there happens to be an Apple retail location but it's a few miles away."technology ftw

So is Apple finally going to release a sub-1000$ laptop that plays 1080p videos? with an HDMI port? Dell's "studio" laptops from 750-999$ all have actual video cards, and MBP specs for half the price:999$ 15.4" (1280 by 800) Studio Dell 2.2Ghz C2D4 GB Ram320GB HHD256MB ATI 34501999$ 15" (1440 by 900) MBP2.4Ghz C2D2GB Ram200GB HDD256 8600GTNow i love OSX, and i want a new laptop, but i'm sorry it has to play HD movies. Buddies new Mac Book won't play 1080p, and doesn't have an HDMI port. I don't want to spend 2k$ on a MBP, when i can get a Dell for half the price, with mostly better specs AND an HDMI port. So am i FINALLY going to be able to buy an Apple laptop that is powerful enough for under 1k$?
10/13/2008 11:50:05 PM
^ his Macbook should be able to play 1080p. He should have tried using VLC, or removing Perian (sometimes it screws with some Apple Quicktime trailers).
10/13/2008 11:58:38 PM
^it doesn't. He tried using VLC on some 1080p 8.5-10GB files i gave him and they worked in the slow sections but dropped to like 5-10fps in action scenes. Clearly the integrated video card isn't powerful enough. I might be wrong, but it's sad Dell can make a 15.4" laptop with an hdmi port that plays 1080p videos using a relatively nice ATI 3450 256mb for 750$ and Apple can't do this with a 1100$ 13" Macbook.749$ 15.4" (1280 by 800) Studio Dell2.0Ghz C2D2 GB Ram250GB HDD256MB ATI 34501099$ 13.3" 1280 by 800 MacBook2.1Ghz C2d1 GB Ram120GB HDDIntegrated Intel X3100 I mean aside from not running autocad/solidworks, or playing games, i can't even watch my illegal movies!!! I really wanna open up and start using a MacBook but this is just nuts. Apple better have something good tomorrow, or i'm sticking with my ipod touch.
10/14/2008 12:09:05 AM
^They are that way because they either put underpowered hardware in the machine or they severely underclock perfectly good hardware in an effort to use a quieter/lesser cooling solution. They of course over-charge for this as well ...
10/14/2008 12:15:05 AM
10/14/2008 12:16:46 AM
^^no this is neither. They don't even put video cards in thier MacBooks. The 649$ dell has the same x3100 integrated video card that the 1099$ MacBook has. The 749/849/999$ Dell Studio laptops all have ATI 3450 256MB video cards in them. This is just unacceptable. I know i'm making this comparison at the end of the current Apple laptops life cycle, but Apple usually follows this trend. To buy what i can get in a dell for 749$ i'd have to spend 1999$ on a Mac Book Pro. ^The 1080p stuff you're watching is probably low-bitrate HD and will play on the X3100 integrated video card. The stuff i'm trying to play is higher bit-rate HD, which the x3100 can't handle.
10/14/2008 12:24:04 AM
I'm not disagreeing with you on the cost...but after having apple laptops since the PowerBook G4 and now the macbook pro...I would never again buy anything else.hell, I got a really sweet ass Dell laptop from work that I never use because I just use my macbook pro for development It was a hell of a lot easier setting up my local dev. environment on the mac then on windows.[Edited on October 14, 2008 at 12:26 AM. nast, that screen is like a mirror, hello!?!!, gloss was so 90's, we now have 8-layer anti-glare matte coatings on our screens[Edited on October 14, 2008 at 12:45 AM. Reason : .]
10/14/2008 12:44:38 AM
I hate to admit it, but a good part of the reason i'm considering a MBP is the design and build. that and i'd like to play w/ OSX. gawd, i go laptop shopping and its like one high tech riced out AIWA shelf system inspired plastic piece of crap after another. blahI think i'll wait and try to pick up a used current MBP once the new ones come out.
10/14/2008 12:57:12 AM
I'm actually selling a MBP. Its the previous MBP (Intel Core Duo)
10/14/2008 1:41:58 AM
10/14/2008 8:44:52 AM
so its still one-button.
10/14/2008 9:39:44 AM
jesus, yes. you think at this point, after 25 years of grand-standing, they're just going to switch over to two button trackpads?I'm sure it will be the same as with the current Macbook/Air/Pro trackpads - use one finger to left-click, two fingers to right-click. I find this method to be a lot easier anyway. I use it at home on my MBP. At work on my Thinkpad, it has a tiny, no-multi-touch trackpad, and 5 buttons. I use my thumbs for the buttons, and I'm always hitting the wrong one. I would be easier if I could just use 1 or 2 fingers, like on my Mac
10/14/2008 10:04:23 AM
one button mouse is one reason i could never own a macbook.
10/14/2008 10:06:19 AM
my laptop plays 1080p just fine and was ~$900 after tax and shipping
10/14/2008 10:06:22 AM
^^ what about a "no button" mouse, like the trackpad which is really just one big button?have you tried any of the alternatives to discrete left and right buttons, like using the command key, or using the 1-finger = left click, 2-fingers = right click method?
10/14/2008 10:09:07 AM
10/14/2008 10:19:19 AM
Having a one button mouse is pure genius. I don't ever have to move my thumb to reach the 2nd button. (on a trackpad) It all depends on if i have a 2nd finger present on the track pad or not. I don't see how anyone could argue that having 1 button isn't better. (except those of you who obviously have never used it and therefore talking out of your ass)
10/14/2008 10:35:55 AM
Lol at the cheapo reflective screen
10/14/2008 10:57:01 AM
10/14/2008 11:00:43 AM
gloss/matte is a selectable option when you buy it - my mbp is matte.and the one button click is awesome - i wouldn't have it any other way. i much prefer the two-fingered right click to having a separate button for right clicking.
10/14/2008 11:01:39 AM
this is superior to all trackpads, multiple buttons or not
10/14/2008 11:03:49 AM
Yeah, i gotta agree that the laptop clit is the best pointing device in existence.
10/14/2008 11:06:37 AM
i was really hoping for something similar to the dell inspiron mini 9/msi wind/eee pc. similar in size AND price. i seriously doubt apple could ever make anything that cheap, but i can hope.

10/14/2008 11:34:48 AM
I think the guy who developed the mighty mouse should be tea bagged. But the double tap on the trackpad is one of the better "innovations" Ive seen in a while for a laptop.

10/14/2008 1:38:48 PM
yeah, over priced, but this is genius..... I would love to have all these cables coming directly from my displayi guess this is their response to not offering a docking station[Edited on October 14, 2008 at 1:43 PM. Reason : /]
10/14/2008 1:42:00 PM
i don't get these mini-display ports, do you have to carry around an adapter to convert it to a regular VGA/DVI port? i mean I KNOW why they did it, the VGA/DVI interface is way to large to put on a laptop, but i've been to 2-3 presentations where the presenter had a powerpoint, forgot their display adapter/cable and had to transfer their presentation to a USB drive to PC just so they could connect to a projector/TV. i mean i have a 2009 LCD HDTV and it doesn't have a mini-display port on it.
10/14/2008 1:47:52 PM
10/14/2008 1:48:47 PM
^yep. they just can't fit it on there.just keep the adapter in your laptop back and you won't have a problem
10/14/2008 1:49:40 PM
seems like those should have been issues that were considered back when the DVI standard was made..... i guess at that point they weren't thinking that notebooks would less than 1" thick overall and down to 0.25-0.5" thick at the edgeslooks like ethernet is the limiting factor now[Edited on October 14, 2008 at 2:00 PM.
