So 2 of my friends are overseas for study abroad and Peace Corps: Peru and Uruguay. I want to send them some homemade foods, like fudge and cookies. Has anyone had any experience doing this? Will the cookies/fudge go bad or is there a special way to package them?

Do they have an APO/FPO? I have worked at a few embassies/consulates and we always supported local PC people for mail and other services.Fudge will always melt, no matter how you send it, USPS, UPS, DHL or FedEx without the straight up cost of expensive cooling packaging.Do it on the cheap, throw the fudge in ziplock bags, pack it in a box and send it, preferably surrounded by heaps of gummi bears and q-tips.When that mess of zip-locked doo-doo shows up, everyone laughs and immediately looks for a cooler of ice to throw that bag in.Thirty minutes later, everyone shows up with a plastic spoon, ready to compare your fudge recipie with everyone of their own relative's version of fudge bliss.Always have a pocket knife.

If you send the fudge in winter it should be fine. Last year my mom mailed me some fudge from the State Fair for Christmas and it didn't melt.

Except you'd be sending fudge during summer to South America...I would say it'll melt. If your friends have an FPO it's doable, I've done it from Japan. But, if they have regular "I live in Peru" mail, I wouldn't chance it unless it's impermeable food. I ordered a skateboard while in Japan to a regular address and it took a good 2-3 months to arrive.
