i prefer a combo of vegas and after effects
10/6/2008 5:53:44 AM
....aftereffects is going to have too steep of a learning curve and doesn't really do anything that a home user needsyou'll be fine with adobe premiere elementsyou can jump up to adobe premiere cs3 if you want, but unless you plan on using it constantly I wouldn't waste the money.

ok... i pick up on programs quickly, so that's not an issue. i don't want to fork over a grand for a program though, so i'll look into the home user type stuff y'all mentioned. thanks.

if you use a Mac, be sure to download iMovie HD '06. The current version, iMovie '08, is a completely different product, but unfortunately has the same name. iMovie 08 is good for quickly and easily putting together movies and slideshows with music and very basic effects like titles and transitions. But if you want to do actual video effects, you will need to use iMovie 06 (which is free from Apple)

windows: VegasMac: iMovie+iDVDunless you want to get really fancy and into it hardcore...then what everyone else says is good.

lets say i did want to get into it hardcore... what would my best bet be then?

final cut studio, hands downpremiere cs3 is pretty awesome as well, but i have a lot more experience with the FCS components (FCP, compressor, color, etc)
10/6/2008 1:32:07 PM
^^what platform do you work on? Mac or PC?If its a PC Premiere and After Effectsif its on a mac i'd say Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro (both cost $texas though)even if you did get into it hardcore...it might be a bit overkill...BUT in my opinion it would be worth it if you really get into video editing because your options are endless and you'll always have something new to learn.[Edited on October 6, 2008 at 1:32 PM. I do alot of professional work and use Vegas and After Effects alot. HD editing (not HDV) can be a little cumbersome in Vegas, but very do-able. Premiere is an OK editor, but definately prefer Vegas. After Effects cannot be beat in its flexibility...

final cut and apple color, but I can't do motion because I've been using AE for so long.

what file extensions do these programs work with? can any of them save as just a simple .mov?also, do any of them use panoramic software? I'm trying to create a digital tour of the labs in Daniels and create clickable "hot spots" on the machines and my boss is looking in to buying a software suite that includes video editing tools and also the ability to do that panoramic viewing (will probably be two separate programs).please help!
