Anyone else thinking about seeing this soon? Originally didn't care too much but after seeing Maher talk about the movie on the Daily Show, it seems like a must-watch.Opens tomorrow, 10/3.http://www.religulousmovie.net/Part of the Jon Stewart/Bill Maher interview:http://www.hulu.com/watch/37240/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart-bill-maher-pt-1

he's had several other good interviews on Fresh Airhttp://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=95210724and he went on The View and suggested that Sherri Shepard was insane, which is always a plushttp://richarddawkins.net/article,3191,-Sherri-Shepherd-Bill-Maher-Spar-Over-God-Bill-Tells-Sherri-She-Should-Go-To-Psych-Ward,Huffington-Posthttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/30/sherri-shepherd-bill-mahe_n_130581.htmlthe reviews are good too, and people who have seen it say that generally, he does not do a lot of commentary. He just asks people (religious people) questions, and lets their answers stand on their own.[Edited on October 2, 2008 at 11:34 PM. Reason : .]

10/3/2008 9:52:08 AM
I want to see this, but Bill Maher can just be so fucking annoying sometimes. Probably just wait and watch it on DVD in a month or two.
10/3/2008 10:46:22 AM
He'd be the best political humorist and pundit in America if he wasn't so damn arrogant and smug and hateful.

^^ yeah, and he has George Carlin syndrome when it comes to religion. I mean, yeah, we get it--you don't like religion. Make a joke about it, but damn dude, after that, give it a rest.

Went to the 9:20 show earlier. It was hilarious. Everyone should see it, especially the religious, but I know I'm biased.

Bill Maher? What a little bitch--watch him get knocked the fuck out by Erik Estrada at about 3:00 on this video excerpt from the show Pictionary, for God's sake (pun intended): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufGml7lRoMcWhat a fucking douche.
10/4/2008 6:09:18 PM
i use to like maher a lot...idk why but i dont as much anymore...i think i saw a preview for this the other day and thought it looked kinda dumb...if theres one thing i'm more apathetic on than religion, its listening to other people talk about why they dont like religion
10/4/2008 6:18:20 PM
Bill Maher can be pretty fucking funny most of the time. The movie looks good.

10/5/2008 2:22:00 PM
saw his interview on the daily showmaher made it sound like the movie was less about "I hate religions, Im too smart for them . . . etc etc"and more about "How are you so sure about your religion?" questioning people's faith etc etcwhich seems like a slightly less annoying pov, can anyone thats actually seen the movie confirm?
10/5/2008 7:14:22 PM
That's exactly what it was. He would just ask questions and let their answers stand for themselves. He did have a few little speeches that were more about how religion is bad but he didn't do that to anyone's face.
10/5/2008 8:48:15 PM
^^ the beginning of his interview had that impression, but he still ended up sounding like a complete douche.
10/5/2008 9:21:54 PM
^ well, he still is bill mahertautology.
10/5/2008 9:58:35 PM
saw this yesterday. i enjoyed it, its pretty funny. there's a few somewhat awkward moments, but he brings up a lot of good points to people in ways that they can't really get mad about.and it gets kind of serious towards the end.
10/6/2008 9:23:16 AM
Not trying to knock the bill maher thing (other than him being a jerk, but that's well known)Dawkins did a good documentary which, I imagine, is very similarThe Root of All Evil? also, churches bought blocks of tickets for fireproof, which may artificially raise the ticket sales.
10/6/2008 6:27:07 PM

I'm planning on seeing this sometime this week with some buddies of mine. hooksaw don't be so close minded. I understand that you may not want to watch this film because you hate Bill Maher, but you're coming off as someone that won't even listen to those with alternate views to your own. One of my friends who wants to see this is very religious and says that even though he disagrees with people like Maher and Dawkins, it's still a good idea to keep up with what they are saying since they have a "following" (for lack of a better word). Besides, I hear this movie isn't a "you people who believe in God are stupid" (which Maher does seem to think) but rather a look at exactly why religion is still so popular in today's modern world. Could be interesting

What's hard for me to understand is how people can become so set in their ways that they turn on blinders to any other ideas or beliefs, whether they be about religion, politics, etc. I've always tried to maintain an open mind when considering serious issues. Maybe a large part of it has to do with the way we are brought up. But it seems illogical to me to believe the world only works one way and anyone who disagrees with you is just wrong. I find the people I have the most intellectually stimulating conversations with will at least listen to you first before criticizing what you are saying.
10/6/2008 9:00:25 PM
I may see this on DVD. I think Bill can be arrogant about a lot of things, I don't agree with him nor do I like him, but I will listen to his views. I mainly don't like him for his constant bashing of the south and midwest states and questioning my intelligience because I believe in God. Saying that I think Christians are sometimes blinded by their faith. Atheism is on the rise especially in this country. Church attendance has fallen especially with the 21-34 age group. I think media has a lot to do with it, we are an increasingly godless soceity with bloodlust. I mean the shows that are on network TV would never have been on TV even 20 years ago. Shows like Will & Grace, Desparate Housewives, Heroes would never air. We have become more progressive and its showing all over the place including Churches.
10/6/2008 10:27:22 PM
^^^^ and ^^ You mean open-minded like Bill Maher? Are you fucking serious?Do you even realize that the very title of the movie, Religulous, is a portmanteau of the words "religious" and "ridiculous"? Yes, that's a very open-minded premise.[/sarcasm] The film mocks religion--particularly Christianity--and any who subscribe to its belief system. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2008/08/20/lkl.bill.maher.cnnSweet Jesus (pun intended)--look at this douche ^. I mean, Maher has frequently accused the religious of having a neurological disorder--excluding Barack Obama, of course. In a related note, God smote Maher by ensuring that Beverly Hills Chihuahua--LOL!--crushed his turd of a movie at the box office.
