just reported on Jim Rome show, no link yet
article from last night:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3617200

Source: Raiders owner Davis making moves to start process of replacing Kiffin
Quote :
"Even though Lane Kiffin remained head coach of the Oakland Raiders long enough to meet with the Bay Area media Monday, the process of replacing him has begun.

According to a source, Raiders owner Al Davis scheduled one-hour meetings Monday evening with three members of the coaching staff -- offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, offensive line coach Tom Cable and longtime NFL offensive coordinator and current Raiders consultant Paul Hackett. The meetings, according to the source, were to discuss the possibility of replacing Kiffin, who has yet to be informed of any potential change.

Kiffin declined comment Monday evening when contacted. During his Monday news conference, he told the local press he was no longer going to discuss any of his conversations or meetings with Davis. It is believed Davis has not talked to him about a possible change.

"I just feel we're going to open up too many things, and those are conversations that I do or do not have with him that should stay between him and I," Kiffin said in his news conference."

Al Davis blaming Lane Kiffin for the Raiders problems is like me taking in my totaled truck to the mechanic and then getting pissed at him because it is fucked up.

Al Davis needs to go ahead and croak....i'm tired of this crap. We used to be a competative football program and now were the worst team in the NFL. We'd still have John Gruden if it weren't for him. Who in the HELL would want to coach the Raiders now??

I really feel sorry for Raiders fans. It must suck to have your franchise held hostage by a completely insane undead owner.

I guess it's "official" now:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3617977&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines

Quote :
"The inevitable became reality Tuesday when Lane Kiffin was fired by Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis on Tuesday.

In a one-paragraph release, the team said "Lane Kiffin has been released as head coach of the Oakland Raiders for cause. "

Sources told ESPN that Kiffin was fired via the telephone and without pay."

Fired via telephone, without pay, and he won't be allowed to address his players. That's shitty.

^ He had a clause in his contract that if he ever sent the kicker out for a 76 yard FG he would be fired without pay

Nah they have Haslett.

Kiffin is going to take a college job for next year. Our luck he gets the UVA or Clemson job. Syracuse, UT, ECU may come calling too.

There's been talk amongst UVA people about Kiffin for awhile since the whole rumor that he'd be fired came out.

See, I thought that too. Then Davis says that Kiffin called all the offensive plays until that game, meaning Davis or someone else called that play.

That whole press conference yesterday was just plain weird and made Al Davis look like a damn fool. My wife who doesn't care about football (outside of rooting for Philip) was like "who is this crazy old man and why does he look like he's dead".

I hope Kiffin sues and wins a lawsuit to get his pay. The whole "fired with cause" was just plain bullshit.

What I don't understand is why the old bastard won't just hire Rob Ryan as the head coach. Al clearly has a boner for him. I was shocked Ryan wasn't hired instead of Kiffin in the first place. I guess Al just doesn't want to have to inevitably fire Ryan in 12-18 months.

oh, he will. Davis tried with this with Mike Shanahan and won but there is much more in place to protect the coaches in shit like this. I believe Kiffin will sue and win.

the fired with cause was retarded ... the cause was the fact that Davis is the worst owner in all of sports

Donald Sterling takes the cake for worst owner IMO.

Worst owners:

1) Donald Sterling
2) Peter Angelos
3) Al Davis

Kiffin knew what he was walking into. You don't coach for Al Davis and expect sanity, logic, or a chance to prove yourself or install your system.

The without pay thing is kind of bullshit, though.

You forgot to include AOL/Time Warner in there at #2. Joking obviously, but God I wish the Braves weren't owned by a retarded corporation (granted AOL doesn't own them anymore, Liberty Media does).

Today on Outside The Lines they were talking about how the Syracuse program has fallen and that Greg Robinson will likely be out this year. They then talked about Lane Kiffin being on the short list of replacements. Kiffin was at SC when the current Syracuse AD was also there. Also some other guy in the athletics department there has connections to Kiffin. They mentioned how it'd be funny if Kiffin took over the Syracuse job, which is Al Davis' alma mater.
