I just waited around to see if anyone else would make a thread or even a post about this game, and I guess I'm by myself with this game. It will be on store shelves on Wednesday. Hope someone else gets it and we can share stories or horror. Honestly, I know that this game doesn't have mass appeal, but I hope a few of us can unite here to discuss a very convoluted game.

i think they are being smart with the new fighting mechanism. resident evil made an awesome leap when they went to 4 cuz you were scared because of the atmospher, not because you thought "oh shit that monster is fast, no way i can turn 180 degrees and still run away."

saw a brief preview vid and it looks fun, though ive only played part of silent hill 2.

I just bought my first silent hill game a month ago, after seeing the movie I figured the experience would be totally freakier than resident evil

yeah, i played 2 cuz it was supposed to be the best and the atmosphere was way better than resident evil id say, but shit the controls blew. same went for 4 even, fun, but controls sucked.

There's a new Silent Hill out? I'm such a huge fan of these games, but haven't beaten the forth one yet. But I know I will!

the "music" and sound were always the scariest things in the game...considering an average "song" might consist of a combination of someone banging a wrench against a boiler, some radio static, some horrific screams and moans and the sound of rusty metal scraping

Those are fanboy reviews. I have a credibility word when it comes to videogames, this game is worth buying, and I don't just buy any games. For example, if you listen to the IGN, the guy says 'rock sold shooting', 'overall its a good game', then turns around and gives it a 6.7. Come on now, and if you listened to what his gripes, it was mainly not being scary, and if you think about it, wtf can be scary after the internet has desensitized you to everything from rapage to death? And not all reviews are 'bad' http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/adventure/silenthill5/review.html?mode=web&tag=scoresummary;critic-score 7.5 average so far is good for a game that is not mainstream and appeals to the masses.

is that the one in the room? I played through that one until I got to the point in the game where you had to play every single fucking stage again, and that's when I stopped

oh you already went through this 4-story 50-room hotel and went into every room and did everything? well now its dark time and the walls are all stained with blood and your radio static is getting loud as fuck and all the rooms are locked again

i heard 4 wasn't that good - 2 was excellent

it seems the character in this new one is a more skilled fighter thus the game isn't as frightening

it must have been hard for the silent hill folks to try and compete with resident evil 4

they probably thought they had to make the combat more exciting

yeah it was a lot scarier when you had a gun with like 5 bullets and had to mostly rely on fighting off monsters with a 2x4 with a nail in it or if you were lucky, an iron pipe

SH4 was good, its ashame that people will miss out on good games based on another persons opinions without even playing them games for themselves.

Haha, you'll be waiting for that longer than you would think. No matter how it compares to others in the series, or if you are expecting a certain kind of game as a result of it being part of a series, this is still a very good good game within itself, and its a solid 8/10. Suit yourself, but I can tell you with credible word that this game, and the fourth one are very good games.

scariest video game ever

especially 4, my god, the part where that guy chases you with the gun in the forest

I didn't find 4 that scary, more frustrating. I hate monsters you can't kill, that damage you by just hanging around. It's tense, but more annoying than anything. Also not enough guns, no flashlight, no radio.

I liked SH2 and SH3 though.

2 was good all around. 3 had some good monster design, and the new locations were pretty awesome.

there is a part in the beginning of 2 where you hear a scream so you head towards the area of the scream and see pyramid head standing completely still behind some bars and at this point you don't know what the fuck it is

then you enter the room where the scream came from and hear a tv blaring static. a man who has blown his head off can barely be seen in the glow

scary shit

also when you enter the hospital and everything is just desolate and quiet for a while and then it turns to the dark world

scary shit

SH2 and 3 are backwards compatible to the 360 so I have really been planing on picking them up at some point. I will also put up the Fatal Frames that are backwards compatible as well.

haven't heard good things about this new one. hearing that it's not scary, the character is too "good" at surviving, and it pretty much functions as an action game rather than a horror game.

we'll hold out on a final verdict until gamefly sends it.

i got hooked pretty early on. less than half an hour in, there's a wheelchair that comes flying down the stairs in front of you, and completely scared the shit out of me and my roommates. we haven't had a chance to sit down and play it again since the first sitting, but it has seemed pretty freaky so far.

I am only about 3 hours in, and I can tell you that there are quite a few more (legitimate) scares coming. The only thing I hate about the game, is that it was get VERY dark, even with the flashlight on, I mean to the point that's its actually frustrating, but not enough to ruin the game. Some enemies of the same type will see super-strong at times, as well. But overall, as I think I already stated, its a solid 8/10.

I am interested in Dead Space as well. It more like Resident Evil 4 though. But, I am almost finished with this game (Silent Hill Homecoming), and it is good as hell. Just for a single player game, you would def playthrough at least 3 times.

about how long was your first playthrough? we only just got back to the house, with the gas can thing, and put the game down and haven't returned.

WOW, you are still pretty much in the beginning, lolz. Its about a 10-12 hour game the first time through. You can get about 18 hours out of the game if you achieve all endings and and obtain all the collectibles. I will have this for sale for $40 in about 3-4 more days after I get 1000G/1000G

I hav already finished two playthroughs. One on Normal and one on Hard. I saved in the prison and did not overwrite so I could do all five endings from there. I have one more playthrough to go, and that's to get all of the drawings. Also, I HIGHLY recommend achieving ending 5 on your first playthrough.
