When are you going?I'd make good and damn sure that the river is EASILY passable.....some friends and I went earlier in the spring and it was very slow going.....a lot of pushing/carrying canoes...one boat capsized trying to slide over a log across the water.....moral of this story is to make sure you have plenty of flow/depth.That having been said, if you're going soon, will you get back and update this thread or PM me to let me know the conditions...I want to try again.[Edited on September 26, 2008 at 1:10 PM. yeah, the river is real shallow up this way. shouldn't be too bad after all this rain lately though. just check the levels online.

We were planning on going Saturday. My brother went on falls lake like a week and half ago. He said some of the guys were raving about the conditions because it just rained a lot from the hurricane. Im only assuming its similar conditions now. with the rain yesterday and all.If we go, ill def. report on how it was.ive had few other people say NOW is a good time to do

I was gonna wait and see what this storm in the Caribbean is doing......that might break next weekend.....Has the Army COE started letting more water out yet? All I know is that when it was finally pitch black and cold we saw stadium lights, pulled the canoes up 80deg. embankment........and were only to NRCA................6 miles shy of Buffaloe Rd.[Edited on September 26, 2008 at 1:30 PM. the lake is super high right now which in turn means the river is too since they are letting out water like a motherfucker. i don't think buffaloe rd. would be long enough for you. ride it all the way to the water fall. you can take out there.http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=35.800325,-78.539146&spn=0.003163,0.00478&t=h&z=18

^haha.. it seems as if SpeedFreak and I read your post earlier...he was asking me if there is anything past buffaloe. we did some searching and we might ride it down to milburnie. so we might do that. perhaps launch before noon. get there couple hours later.

fun trip.. 3 hours to get to buffalo... another 1.5 to 2 hours to the dam.. water is high.flowing well. we acually took out before the dam and hitched a ride to our car on the other side. we coasted a lot also.

my GF and her roomate did falls to buffaloe today.they dropped in around 3ish.. and they were out by 6ish. took them anywhere from 2.5-3hours to do it.twas fast.
9/29/2008 8:18:37 PM
can you ride the river all the way to clayton?
9/29/2008 10:40:29 PM
damn, i've been wanting to do this for a while too.
9/30/2008 2:02:03 AM
you can ride it from falls dam right up to milburnie dam (unless you wanna go over the dam dam )... but you gotta get out before the dam and walk around it (still havnt found a trial, im sure there is but it was too dark to find one) and get back in at the bottom of the dam and you can paddle to poole rd. dont know after that.

took the kaks to the damn.. was gonna run down the rapids, good thing we didnt. we have rec kayaks and they would have been filled with water after each wave.but we took them down to the canoe launch across paddle creek and paddled up stream near some of the rapids and took the small ones down a few times. talk about a work out. stay near the sides if you wanna paddle upstream.water was about 3 feet lower. thats good i guess, we could get out and walk along the rocks near the rapids to setup for a ride down (thats how we found out the kayak fills up with water. specially with no skirt).i think its just getting lower and lower. so go soon if you wanna make a decent trip down to buffaloe.speadfreak and I wanna get some tubes out on the rapids and float down stream. anyone down? with the brown?
