http://www.newsobserver.com/264/story/1228720.htmlChapel Hill looks over the next couple years to scale back and eventually turn the unofficial event into a "community themed event".One more reason why that place over the hill sucks. Hopefully Hillsborough St takes a hint and starts really ramping up.

I know they've been talking about doing this for awhile. It's weird though, I went in 2001 and I don't remember any checkpoints. It sucks you have a few assholes who ruin the fun for everyone else. I wouldn't dream of Raleigh letting an event like this happen.

Canceling a popular party that's steeped in tradition and replacing it with a lame roped off event where a checked ID will net you $0.50 pizza and a jump in a bounce castle. Where have I heard this before?[Edited on September 23, 2008 at 8:08 AM. Reason : -]

more proof that Chapel Hill is full of fags with their panties hiked up their asses[Edited on September 23, 2008 at 8:13 AM. Reason : time for Hillsborough to shine!]

yeah.... kinda does make the hike king daddy party now..
9/23/2008 8:54:09 AM
there's no way city of raleigh shuts down hillsborough street this year. that just invites everyone from chapel hill to come here instead
9/23/2008 9:02:15 AM
dont worry, the Hillsborough Hike Night will be shut down soon enoughthe halloween party on franklin street has got super ghetto recently anyways, I probably would never go again either way
9/23/2008 9:05:27 AM
Raleigh killed the brentroad party, ncsu killed pigstock....
9/23/2008 9:15:33 AM
Raleigh/NCSU will continue to shut down partying. The Hike's days are numbered.

My apologies. I figured this was news related and didnt think to check there for it.
9/23/2008 10:48:07 AM
I don't think they will ever shut down the hike. All of those places are public bars. Are they going to close every bar for the entire weekend before exams? They can't tell the buisnesses to close for the week just because they expect a large crowd of people to show up.[Edited on September 23, 2008 at 7:47 PM. Reason : .]

I've heard a lot of talk about Chapel Hill trying to scale down the event. But the only progress they've made is 1 less bus to get people to downtown which wont make a bit of difference. Its a symbolic gesture at best, and nothing else will happen. And yeah the bars aren't going to give up that $. But with all the talk of how much safer its going to be this year, if anything there is going to be a larger crowd.

i don't know. i'm not a student anymore or have any desire to hang out with drunk 19 year olds. even if that is so, you can be sure that Raleigh will put the kibosh on that before it gets anywhere close to the size of the Franklin St pary.

Don't they usually close the streets and let the revelers walk around in the street? If so, why not just keep the streets open to traffic? Might reduce the crowds a little. I don't care if stupid drunks get hit by cars, it's their own fault for being stupid.I don't think the town government has the right to order a halt on alcohol sales after 9PM one day of the year if it's 2AM any other day. Business as usual should be permitted, but don't shut down the streets just because it's Halloween.I'm always firmly opposed to DUI checkpoints, no matter what day it is. It assumes that all motorists are drunk and must prove that they are not (guilty until proven innocent). If you opt to drive on Halloween night, you should be fully aware of the increased possibility of drunk drivers. And please don't turn it into a lame-ass family fun block party like First Night. I hate having screeching toddlers running around tripping people.

N.C. State working on Halloween planRaleigh, N.C. — While Chapel Hill authorities plan to rein in Halloween revelers, student groups at North Carolina State are looking to expand their celebration in Raleigh.Jay Dawkins, student body president at NCSU, said the university community is working with businesses and campus and Raleigh police to plan a safe and successful party along Hillsborough Street.http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/3599714/

^Ha-ha, I posted in another thread about the time I let this stupid kid plow her shopping cart into me at top speed. It didn't hurt me, but she banged her head into the handle and started to cry. I just glared at her.

9/24/2008 12:50:51 PM
Here's your updatehttp://www.wral.com/news/local/story/3673018/CH has decided on at least 2 things..1) Chapel Hill Transit buses will no longer provide shuttle services to the downtown from area Park and Ride lots.2) A traffic diversion plan will limit access to the downtown area by reducing lanes on Raleigh Road/N.C. Highway 54, Martin Luther King Drive and East Franklin Street. If I see any little kids running around, I'm scaring the crap out of them and ask their parents why aren't they home being safe from me.
10/4/2008 3:38:08 PM
wow chapel hill is going to turn into a clusterfuck Halloween night.and more so then it has been in years pastI really dont see a plan that will work in limiting the Chapel Hell celebration i think they will just have to end up pulling a brent rd and putting police in full force out there telling people to GTFO
10/4/2008 3:45:09 PM
it is time

Why does everything in the triangle have to be "family-friendly"? If they put some kiddy inflatable shit in the street, I'm going to take it down.
10/4/2008 4:31:51 PM
franklin street was good when it was drunk college students having fun, i think the city doesn't like the changing demographic of the party
10/4/2008 4:31:57 PM
when you've got 30000 girls dressed as a "slutty _______" there's bound to be some "unwanted demographics" rolling up there
10/4/2008 4:45:25 PM
marko, you gonna be a pink panther?
10/4/2008 4:47:49 PM
^^ well no shit, but its gotten pretty out of control in the past few years
10/4/2008 4:50:13 PM
i went once and thought it was over rated as fuck...maybe it was cause i wasnt drunk though
10/4/2008 5:14:36 PM
you have to be dressed up, drunk out of your mind and preferably with hot unc girls to understand
10/4/2008 5:16:41 PM
They are probably trying to avoid a shooting or rash of robberies. As much as I hate to see a party squashed it was only a matter of time, especially with Durham so close by.
10/4/2008 5:18:33 PM
^^lol i was there in the mid 90s in the rain on some psychedelicsi can easily say that it was never as crazy fun as that ever again

They need to keep it the same, except have buses available to take people to Greenville.Like, if you're not wearing a costume and you haven't visited Chapel Hill since the Halloween before, you gotta take your ass to Greenville.
