my 2002 saturn sl1 sunroof is now stuck in the "wide open, rain please come pour inside" position...it's gotten stuck before in the past few months, but then i'd just push it and it'd close just fine...now it doesn't seem to responding at all

i don't really care about fixing it so that it will work correctly at this point, though that might be the only option...i really just want to get it closed so that it won't be a problem when it rains (it doesn't leak or anything...at least, it didn't)

is there a way to just remove the glass and manually put the rails (or whatever) back into the closed position? the glass looks relatively easy to remove (looks like two torx screws), but i may be missing something

I dont know a ton about cars, or your saturn specifically.

On our accords, there has always been a "manual close" procedure in the manual. Most had a little thing hidden in the ceiling that you could access.

Might try checking there.

Sorry that this isnt much help, just made me think of our hondas and I thought it might help.

Your Sunroof is now inoperative because they used plastic instead of metal for the sunroof rails. Congratulations on having to spend 600-1200 to fix the sunroof. It's fucking bullshit.

actually, not long after i posted this (which i waited to post until i had tried most of the day to get it closed), i turned on the car and it closed without a problem

i have no idea whether it's electrical or a bad motor or what ^ pointed out...but i won't be opening it again any time soon

FWIW, unless i'm misunderstanding what they're referring to as rails, mine are metal...both the "female" guides attached to the roof and the "male" guides attached the glass are metal...i might not be looking at the right thing, though

^ No, its bad rails. Its all the classic signs, one side only gets stuck, after a while it comes down, and it's immovable even with pushing on it.

would WD40 help? sometimes my sunroof shudders a little bit when closing, makes me think it needs more lubrication.

when this first started happening, it would just randomly not work, it seemed like i could hear the motor going, but it wouldn't move much or it would get kind of hung up (so that goes along with the rail idea)...but now, it doesn't move at all, and i don't hear the motor grinding or anything...i mean, yeah, it did close on its own the other day, but when it wasn't responding i wasn't hearing anything

i guess that's what i get for buying american...and a saturn to boot! then again...it's 7 years old and cost of ownership has been very low until this (and it's just a luxury, it doesn't keep the car from working)
