http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/1212377.htmlwtf is up with these kids not knowing where they live? In 1st grade I sure has hell knew what my bus stop was. I didn't need some bus driver telling me. IMO these parents are being unreasonable/irresponsible.

in my day (elementary school), the bus driver wouldn't let us off at any other stop but our ownwhich sucked if you wanted to go to a friend's house
9/9/2008 5:27:19 PM
yeah, same here.. we had to gives notes to teachers that verified them and then told the bus drivers it was ok before they'd let us out at a different place

9/9/2008 5:32:37 PM
^, ^^, ^^^ that's bullshit, a kid should know where he lives unless he's mentally deficient.
9/9/2008 5:44:00 PM
Y'all had some nice administrators and bus drivers. My bus driver in elementary school (K-3) would literally put kids off the bus for acting up. I'm talking like 2 miles from home, if you don't know how to get back to the projects just ask someone for directions, see you tomorrow, now GTFO.[Edited on September 9, 2008 at 5:49 PM. Reason : l]

^^it wasn't to deal with kids that didn't know where they lived it was to deal with kids going home with friends when they weren't suppose to
9/9/2008 5:48:24 PM
Again with pinning blame on the parents eh? Didn't the story say that the mom was out at the bus stop waiting for the child? I suppose she could have just gone to school with the kid and held their hand the entire day.
9/9/2008 5:49:06 PM
well REALLY its the kid being retarded, then its the parents being unreasonable for being pissed at the driver so much as to want them basically fired. I'm sorry but if my bus driver told me to get off I'd tell them it wasn't my stop yet.
9/9/2008 5:52:10 PM
What's the capacity on a school bus? It's ~60, or so, right? Do you really expect someone making $8 an hour to keep up with where 60 kids are supposed to get off the bus?Sometimes things just happen and it is unfair to try to point the blame at one person. The kid messed up, but he's a kid. The bus driver can't run a spreadsheet showing where each kid gets dropped off. The kid got home safely. No need to make a huge fuss.

9/9/2008 5:55:00 PM
^^ pretty much my point, smack the kid in the back of the head for getting off when it wasn't there stop and move on. Next think you know some fucking parent will be suing the school system for this dumb shit.
9/9/2008 5:56:18 PM
^^^^Maybe. Seems like there was a Millgram's experiment that had something to do with obedience to authority. Sure, you wouldn't respect a bus driver as an adult but kids are different.Heck, my bus driver missed my stop when I was a kid. They didn't just drop me off at the next bus stop and say good luck, they waited until all the kids were dropped off and dropped me off at the correct stop afterward. Nowadays it's a "good luck with that kid" and the kid is out of your hair.[Edited on September 9, 2008 at 6:00 PM. Reason : -]

I assumed this happened all the time. I'm sure hundreds of other incidents are never reported.

This just shows how much more pussified parents are now in just the short time period since we were in school. I mean if I got off at the wrong stop the bus driver would not be the one getting yelled at/insulted/blamed. I am pretty sure my parents would want to know why the hell I did not know what my house looked like.

^ i know right...i'd just get a whooping for going to the wrong spot...end of story...haha

my wife (elem teacher) told me that a TEACHER once got in trouble with a kid's parents because the kid had gotten off at a stop and got missing for an hour or two. WTF did the teacher have to do with it?? This is his classroom teacher, obviously

Ok, so the kid was dropped off in his own apartment complex but couldn't find where he lives? What little faith in society I have is slowly draining away.
9/10/2008 10:37:11 AM
haha, where I was from, if you forgot to get off at your stop the driver would either kick your ass out and you would walk, or they would bring you back to school and you got to call your parents, who had to come pick you up.

^ ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, okay, yeah that makes more sense. I was reading it as the former interpretation
9/10/2008 9:25:26 PM
No lie though....In the fifth grade I sweet talked the bus driver into making a stop at my house so that I wouldn't have to walk a half block to the real stop. After a while all the kids from the other stop would just come to my house. Per my diary, it was the eighth most baller as fuck thing I had done at that point in my life.
9/10/2008 10:31:43 PM
i never rode a bus until damn high school. I walked 3/4 of a mile to school and then walked back.
9/10/2008 10:40:08 PM
^ Was it uphills both ways with no shoes in the snow?
9/10/2008 10:57:13 PM
It was uphill both ways with water moccasins on the trail, an alligator pit, and a spot where you had to jump over a shark.[Edited on September 11, 2008 at 12:26 AM. Reason : l]

This thread should be "another student gets off school bus at wrong stop"
9/11/2008 12:26:35 AM
What is this pussy ass shit? They have multiple stops in the same fucking apartment complex?? When I rode the bus back in the day, they dropped you within a mile radius of your house and you walked home -- none of this door-to-door service.[Edited on September 11, 2008 at 12:48 AM. Reason : ,]

I don't know if it's changed, but it used to be NC law that buses only had to drop you off within 1 mile of where you lived. Seriously though, I used to walk with my older siblings to their bus stop before I even entered elementary school, and was able to find my way home. Though, I stick to my argument in another thread, that the bus driver is the only adult with the kids and thus they become responsible for the children. It's not hard to know where the kids get off, I bet every kid on that bus knows where every other kid is supposed to get off.

PSA AND MESSAGE TO PARENTS:YOUR KID DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME BUS DRIVER EVERY DAY!!!!!BUS DRIVERS TAKE DAYS OFF AND CALL OUT SICK JUST LIKE ANY OTHER HUMAN. SOMETIMES BUSES BREAK DOWN AND THE KIDS GET SPLIT UP AND SENT TO DIFFERENT BUSES. MANY BUSES HOLD OVER 60 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (MORE FOR MIDDLE AND LOWER) THE BUS DRIVER CAN NOT REMEMBER EACH ONE OF THOSE KIDS BUS STOP.TEACH YOUR KID TO LEARN WHAT YOUR FUCKING HOUSE OR APARTMENT LOOKS LIKE.BETTER YET IF YOU HAVE A KID, BUY (OR RENT) AN ACTUAL HOUSE, DO NOT RAISE YOUR KID IN A HUGE APARTMENT COMPLEX. thxStr8BacardiL]
