I need the number for a local mechanic. My car won't start, and I think it's a starter or alternator problem. The battery works (the lights and radio turn on) but when I go to turn the key all I get is a ticking sound. I live near Cameron Village and am in need of a local mechanic that is fairly cheap/reliable and can work on Toyota/Lexus. Please help. Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the battery were dead I don't think the radio and lights would still work. I tried jumping it anyway but it still wouldn't turn over.

the battery has enough juice to run the radio and the lights (most likely very dimly) but not enough to start

happens all the time

yup, what ^ said is correct. I guarantee when you turn the key the voltage is dropping to like 6. Get a friend to take you to advance, get a battery, change said battery (you seriously only need like one wrench to do this--don't pay someone). If that doesn't fix it then take the battery back and then worry about finding a shop

just read that you tried jumping it.. sometimes that still doesn't work but having said that i doubt it is the battery. next guess would be the starter but i don't know any mechanics around there bc i dont pay ppl to work on my car

or better yet since you are an idiot for arguing with the garage masters i think you should push the car to advance where they'll install the battery correctly for free.

bring the battery up to advance. we'll either tell you it's dead and sell you a new one or charge it for you for free.

when i had a mustang, the clicking when you try to turn it on meant a dead battery

on my little brother's saturn, however, the clicking meant a bad starter
