Srsly! It has some yellowish-brown oil stain on it so it's hard to read. Do I wipe it down with a gasoline soaked rag? Acetone? I think that would clean it, but I don't want to contaminate anything.

leave it in a can of sea foam or spary some intake cleaner on it and wipe down

are you that paranoid about your engine? it wont contaminate anything, youre only putting like a drop of whatever to 4-5 quarts of oil. i'd recommend any organic solvent. the main ingredient in seafoam engine treatment that cleans carbon deposits is actually naphtha(charcoal lighter fluid). try some of that. wipe it off the dipstick.[Edited on September 1, 2008 at 4:06 PM.
