apparently McCain only met her for the first time one week before he chose her. Obviously he will have plenty of staffers digging through her closet, but I think it's pretty safe to say that even with some investigation by the McCain staff, it's nothing like being vetted for the first time by national news organizations (and, uhhh, bloggers, in this case)

that's how main stream sneaks into covering stuff like this. they don't cover the actual story because that would be beneath them, they just cover the coverage.

i did a google search just to see which blogs were covering this rumor, and one of the first results from the search was an article from http://www.ronpaulwarroom.com

Maybe the Ron Paul supporters have an anti-palin theme developing here as long as we're talking conspiracies.

You know what would make sense (conspiracy theory here). Palin isn't the real nominee... McCain puts in a "rising star", someone whose pretty much expendable, has no real aspirations for higher office and has obvious flaws. The media rips her apart and then she bows out, citing the reprehensible treatment and attacks on her family (like Perot did for awhile in '92). McCain then picks someone like Tom Ridge or Romney to help mobilize and unite the party and moderates against the "evil" media.

I mean, the Republicans engineered a whole war on lies. They could easily pull this off.

^that sounds more like the Harriet Myers bait & switch that Bush pulled off. let the democrats expend their political downing an incompetent but more not super right-wing person, then next up nominate a better qualified person with obvious strong political leanings like Alito with the cover that if the democrats strongly oppose it you can just complain that they wont let anyone through the process.

while there is a history of those type of tactics, i just don't think it works as well in a presidential campaign. bush made a bad choice the first time, thats no problem since he is already in office, but mccain can't just go "sorry i made a choice that couldn't last even a few months" at this point in an election.

The points this article tries to raise is that aside from rumor floating around, that we should be concerned about someone who would make such poor decisions as a mother on the delay's of going to a hospital for like 10 hours after her water broke, and that she hide per pregnancy from the airline which has a policy against anyone flying after their water has broke.

because, as we all know in 2004 the Repugnicans opened up two floodgates when they:

(1) made attacks on a candidate's wartime service fair gaem, and dismissed it as not being meaningful for a presidential position

(2) coordinated smear campaign by covert financiers, using misleading and/or false information.

Of course, none of which remotely applies to criticisms of Palin.
