is there some sort of "matrix mode" you need to turn on?

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Advanced -> Select 5.1 Speakers (In the dropdown menu at the bottom). -> Click OK. -> Now Click "Speaker Volume" and make sure all the speakers are set to the same volume level (sometimes winderz turns them down to zero when you do driver updates, as it did on mine). -> Click OK until the shit goes away.

Now try the audio again. If it doesn't work, update your audio drivers (and make sure the "control panel" for your sound card drivers is set to output in 5.1).

Hope that fixes it.
