So what's going to be the gimmick this year?
Any more flip-flops or purple bandaids? Or will they just come out with big fake ears and buck teeth?

you know what I, personally, like to see when a bunch of rich, supposedly educated adults get together for a big convention? For them to act like children. Really inspires me.

Good luck with that.

i'm just waiting for this convention because I want to see how NPR handles it. It has been a complete jizzfest for the dems, with practically the entire speeches broadcast in the mornings as I drive to work, it seems

^^My thoughts exactly...all NPR has done for the last week is give democrats a platform for their talking points, which is fine as the DNC convention is this week. They had better do the same thing next week for the RNC.

"rich" wasn't the main point of that sentence. furthermore, I wasn't talking about the republican party, i was talking about the convention attendees, which apart from elected delegates and token human interest stories, I imagine are generally wealthy people (same is true for DNC)

this is equally applicable:
you know what I, personally, like to see when a bunch of adults get together for a big convention? For them to act like children. Really inspires me."

Some tool just said that the RNC would be a low key affair because they can't compete with the DNC spectacle. Another tool said that they might delay this shit because of the hurricane.

If they do either, the republicans might as well pack it up now until 2012. McCain has to show that he is just as intense about the campaign in order to inspire his supporters to turn out.

I love the borderline irony here. The GOP cannot escape these damn hurricanes and the remembrance of Katrina. Katrina comes back to the forefront, per Mother Nature.

GOP may delay start of convention because of Hurricane Gustav

Far-left kook Jimmy Carter at it again.

Carter: McCain 'milking' POW time

Quote :
"DENVER — Former president Jimmy Carter called Republican presidential candidate John McCain a 'distinguished naval officer,' but he said the Arizona senator has been 'milking every possible drop of advantage' from his time served as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

Carter spoke Thursday with USA TODAY and Gannett News Service reporters before Barack Obama's acceptance speech to cap off the Democratic National Convention. Carter spoke of Obama's challenges facing the lingering effects of racism in the United States and the ability of the Clintons to bring their supporters over to Obama. He decried Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman's decision to 'abandon' the Democrats by speaking at the Republican convention next week."

It's not too far from the truth. McCain brought up his experience as a POW when asked about his 10 houses. How is that relevant? Well, the answer can be compared to Guliani's '9/11' every other breath relevancy, though McCain hasn't quite gone that far, yet.

ok then - without having seen the context, that sounds like an unfair attack on McCain.

However, that is what got Gen. Clark in trouble. Nobody bothered to listen to the context of what he was saying, and focused on his last sentence - something like "being a POW is not a qualification to be President". Which is unarguably true, but he was accused of dishonoring McCain and his service, which was bullshit.
So i don't know, maybe Carter has a point. From the USA Today article, he seems to be referring to the one "debate" with Rick Warren. This quote is reasonable, but of course the media will pick up on and run with the "milking" quote
Quote :
"Carter said that whether he was asked about religion, domestic or foreign affairs, every answer came back to McCain's 5½ years as a POW.

"John McCain was able to weave in his experience in a Vietnam prison camp, no matter what the question was," Carter said. "

Constantly, really? He rarely brings it up.

Hell, being a POW for a good chunk of your life probably shapes your perspective on a lot of issues though.

You can bitch all you want about it, the majority of ordinary Americans are gonna look down on anyone criticizing McCain talking about being a POW, even if he does talk about it to much.

John McCain is an undeniable true American patriot that sacrificed for America in the past, but he does not represent the right path for the future of America. He is a good man and an outstanding soldier, but I seriously doubt he will be a good president that will cater to the needs of the majority of Americans. His political record shows where his actual allegiance lies, and that loyalty does not include the middle class.

No president should "cater to the needs of the majority." The president should do WHAT IS RIGHT for America. period.

Quote :

That is quite laughable, considering that the entire purpose of the Democratic party is the elimination of the middle class.

Well, how many election cycles has Biden brought up that car wreck? And Biden's story may not be accurate.

Quote :
"But was the accident really the result of a drunk driver? INSIDE EDITION has learned that some details of the investigation don't seem to fit with what the Senator has said publicly on occasion."

Quote :
"'There was no evidence at the time that was presented to me that the driver of the truck was impaired by alcohol,' Jerome Herlihy says.

INSIDE EDITION spoke with Herlihy, who was a Deputy Delaware Attorney General at the time of the accident. He was called in to oversee the police investigation.

'If there had been any evidence of anything there would have been at least some charges of a violation of a traffic law,' Herlihy says."

Quote :
"Yet years later, Biden would be quoted at least twice suggesting to crowds that his wife and daughter had been killed by a drunk driver."

Quote :
"The truck driver, Curtis Dunn, died in 1999 at age of 74. According to his family he never recovered from the emotional trauma of knowing he was involved in the accident that killed a senator's wife and child."

Quote :
"In a statement to INSIDE EDITION today, Biden's spokesman says: 'Senator Biden understands the intense interest in him as the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee and has mentioned the accident over the years. His focus has always been on the tragedy of losing his wife and daughter, not on the circumstances that led to the crash. Dredging up the details of the accident now serves no purpose.'"

"Police raid headquarters of RNC protesters

Police raided a rental hall used by a group organizing protests at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Friday.

The RNC Welcoming Committee, which describes itself as "anarchist/anti-authoritarian," accused St. Paul police of trying to disrupt their protest planned for Monday, the day the GOP convention is set to begin.

While no one was arrested, the group said police temporarily detained and photographed at least 50 people who were inside the building.

St. Paul Police spokesman Tom Walsh said they were executing a search warrant.

"The cause for the search warrant is not public at this time," Walsh said.

As many as 30 police officers entered with guns drawn, according to witnesses in the building."

" WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Officials with the McCain campaign and the Republican National convention are considering changing the event's agenda as Hurricane Gustav bears down on the Gulf Coast.

Sen. John McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, plans to meet with officials in charge of the party's convention planning in Minneapolis-St. Paul on Sunday to review the latest news on Hurricane Gustav and what their options might be and then consult with the presumptive presidential nominee to determine what changes may need to be made.

"I wouldn't call it a nightmare, but it is a very perplexing challenge," said a GOP official planning the event.

A senior McCain source said Saturday that officials are considering turning the convention into a service event, a massive telethon to raise money for the Red Cross and other agencies to help with the hurricane.

"He wants to do something service-oriented if and when the storm hits and it's as bad as its expected to be now," the McCain source said.

They are also hoping to get McCain himself to a storm-affected area as soon as possible.

McCain had suggested to a Fox News interviewer that the convention could be suspended if it seemed that a festive gathering was inappropriate in light of the destruction the storm may bring."
