So what's going to be the gimmick this year? Any more flip-flops or purple bandaids? Or will they just come out with big fake ears and buck teeth? you know what I, personally, like to see when a bunch of rich, supposedly educated adults get together for a big convention? For them to act like children. Really inspires me.

what is happening right now that rivals people wearing flip-flops on their hands or purple bandaids on their cheeks?

VP to become aware of their selection on Thursdayhttp://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12915.html[Edited on August 27, 2008 at 9:54 PM. Reason : I guess that doesn't exactly mean there will be an announcement]
8/27/2008 9:52:16 PM
I like seeing people wearing sequin flagsuits with star sunglasses and looking like Bootsy Collins

8/27/2008 11:04:03 PM
This looks like food for thought "Who Looks More Stupid During the Convention?? Your Party Or the Party You Hate"Good luck with that.
8/27/2008 11:25:56 PM
i'm just waiting for this convention because I want to see how NPR handles it. It has been a complete jizzfest for the dems, with practically the entire speeches broadcast in the mornings as I drive to work, it seems
8/28/2008 12:10:12 AM
god help me but they chose Rudy 9-11 to do their keynote. lol.
8/28/2008 12:20:20 AM
^^My thoughts exactly...all NPR has done for the last week is give democrats a platform for their talking points, which is fine as the DNC convention is this week. They had better do the same thing next week for the RNC.
8/28/2008 7:27:35 AM
"rich" wasn't the main point of that sentence. furthermore, I wasn't talking about the republican party, i was talking about the convention attendees, which apart from elected delegates and token human interest stories, I imagine are generally wealthy people (same is true for DNC)this is equally applicable:you know what I, personally, like to see when a bunch of adults get together for a big convention? For them to act like children. Really inspires me."
8/28/2008 7:39:34 AM
I'll definitely tune in Tues for Sarah Palin
8/28/2008 11:11:34 PM
Sarah Palin and Tall
8/28/2008 11:18:38 PM
so if mccain picks the pawnelty(sp?) guy, is that just a gimmick to make sure the crowd is really fired up?
8/28/2008 11:21:59 PM
^ who knows, but the Republican convention is in a high school gymnasium. I think off Capital Blvd somewhere.
8/28/2008 11:38:53 PM
Hurricane coming to New Orleans.... pundits talking about Katrina could overshadow/scuttle the whole atmosphere of the RNC.
8/28/2008 11:56:55 PM
This is going to get ugly for obama. obama insulted mccains honor
8/28/2008 11:59:22 PM
...... wut?
8/29/2008 12:09:42 AM
i can actually see the MSM using the hurricanes as an excuse not to cover the RNC.
8/29/2008 12:12:05 AM
Yeah who gives a shit if some people drown when we could be listening to the stirring insights of Tim Pawlenty right
8/29/2008 1:14:17 AM
I can hear some right wingnut now saying that their convention how they need to drill in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge so we won't have to depend on ocean platforms that are susceptible to hits from hurricanes.
8/29/2008 1:19:38 AM
Some tool just said that the RNC would be a low key affair because they can't compete with the DNC spectacle. Another tool said that they might delay this shit because of the hurricane. If they do either, the republicans might as well pack it up now until 2012. McCain has to show that he is just as intense about the campaign in order to inspire his supporters to turn out.

I love the borderline irony here. The GOP cannot escape these damn hurricanes and the remembrance of Katrina. Katrina comes back to the forefront, per Mother Nature.GOP may delay start of convention because of Hurricane Gustavhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/28/AR2008082803165_pf.html

Far-left kook Jimmy Carter at it again.Carter: McCain 'milking' POW time
8/29/2008 9:24:36 AM
you know, if you keep making that face, your eyes are going to get stuck like that

[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 9:45 AM. Reason : You could, you know, just address the post at issue instead of focusing on me.]
8/29/2008 9:44:23 AM
It's not too far from the truth. McCain brought up his experience as a POW when asked about his 10 houses. How is that relevant? Well, the answer can be compared to Guliani's '9/11' every other breath relevancy, though McCain hasn't quite gone that far, yet.
8/29/2008 9:53:57 AM
John "Reporting for Duty" Kerry et al. STFU.
8/29/2008 9:55:45 AM
ok then - without having seen the context, that sounds like an unfair attack on McCain. However, that is what got Gen. Clark in trouble. Nobody bothered to listen to the context of what he was saying, and focused on his last sentence - something like "being a POW is not a qualification to be President". Which is unarguably true, but he was accused of dishonoring McCain and his service, which was bullshit. So i don't know, maybe Carter has a point. From the USA Today article, he seems to be referring to the one "debate" with Rick Warren. This quote is reasonable, but of course the media will pick up on and run with the "milking" quote
8/29/2008 9:56:35 AM
Republicans treat John Kerry's service with the same regard that we treat your opinions hooksaw. John 'got the hell beat out of him' McCain
8/29/2008 9:57:10 AM
McCain and his surrogates bring up his POW experience CONSTANTLY. It would be ridiculous to suggest they don't.
8/29/2008 9:58:22 AM
Constantly, really? He rarely brings it up. Hell, being a POW for a good chunk of your life probably shapes your perspective on a lot of issues though. You can bitch all you want about it, the majority of ordinary Americans are gonna look down on anyone criticizing McCain talking about being a POW, even if he does talk about it to much.
8/29/2008 11:11:08 AM
John McCain is an undeniable true American patriot that sacrificed for America in the past, but he does not represent the right path for the future of America. He is a good man and an outstanding soldier, but I seriously doubt he will be a good president that will cater to the needs of the majority of Americans. His political record shows where his actual allegiance lies, and that loyalty does not include the middle class.[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 11:26 AM. Reason : -]

oh no, it is most certainly the right word.

8/30/2008 9:26:24 PM
^ I think people will see it that way, but I don't think it will translate to votes, like a convention would have done.
