My work is having a pool, here are the exact rules, NCAA College Football Long/Short Pool RulesThe rules for the pool are fairly simple. Prior to the first week of the college football season, each participant shall make 5 “investment choices” for the entire season. He/she may choose to either long or short each selected team. At the end of the season points are tallied based on the final AP Top 25 rankings and the participant with the most points wins. All other participants owe the winner the difference between the winner’s final total points and their respective point totals. For example, if a participant chose to short Texas Tech, which is ranked 12 and Texas Tech finishes the season ranked 20, the participant would receive 8 points. On the other hand, if Texas Tech finishes the season ranked 8, the participant would lose 4 points. The initial value for each team is as follows. Each team ranked in the AP Top 25 is valued at their respective ranking. Any team that received votes is given an initial value of 30. All remaining teams that did not receive votes in the preseason AP Top 25 are given an initial value of 35. A 10 point bonus is awarded for taking a long position on the national champion. Additionally, a 5 point bonus is awarded for taking a long position on the team that finishes #2 in the rankings, and a 3 point bonus for the team that finishes ranked #3. Finally, a 5 point bonus is awarded for taking a short position on the team that drops the most in national ranking over the course of the season.Who do you pick?

so you wont it to be long right?i dont know if i like hey they subtract points and add points, its really confusing.so you wont the LEAST amount of points?Ohio St. has a cupcake schedule, go with them as one.Georgia as a reallllllllly tough one, doubt i'd go there.USC could work, maybeeee Florida, I like Clemson, Oklahoma and Auburn with their new spread offense.[Edited on August 26, 2008 at 5:32 PM. I think you are trying to get the most number of points. The way to go is to short the teams that are always ranked to high based on the teams history. Pretty neat concept though.

JT, the idea is to get the most points. If Georgia is #1 and I short them(bet they go down) and they finish 7th I get 6 points. If Alabama is #25 and I am long on them and they finish #15, I get 10 points. The other side is losing points, I shortUSC at #3 and they finish #1 I lose 2 points. Etc...I have asked what happens if a team finishes outside of the top 25 and you shorted them because it was not explicitly addressed.[Edited on August 26, 2008 at 5:49 PM. If that is the case they should get a value of 35, same as the teams that start outside the top 25.. that is the fair way to do it.

this sounds very interesting....Even if I do not participate this year, I would still want to see how it turns out purely for entertainment. That means someone's gotta keep a rolling poll of week by week leaders including the entire field....

Might be worth shorting Miami or FSU. The ACC is strong enough to get these teams moved up, but not that strong that they can't win the conference this year even with less talent then usual.

Ok, I'm working on a google spreadsheet that we can use to track this week to week. I'll be posting an update once its working.
