Anyone know who's good, among this semester's crop of instructors? I've just attended Chertok's lecture, and my first impression of her course isn't terribly high.

Well, don't take hoon hong unless you don't want to learn the material real well and like patterns. The class, in general, sucks. I don't think any one instructor is going to be that much better than all the others.

Hoon Hong was awesome and the material is pretty well covered.

Is Govan teaching this semester? I had her over summer and she was great.

if you can find a grad student teaching it, take it with themthat's what i did. he explained things so well. very in touch with students...he was in your shoes not too long ago and can relate and knows how to present the material in a way you'll better understand.that's my 2 cents anyway

I'm in the 9:10 - 10 AM MWF lectureThe russian teaching it is AWFUL. He:1. Has a nearly incomprehensible accent2. Awful grammar3. Makes multiple errors in the signs and terms of the answer and had to be corrected by my classmates several times ON THE FIRST DAYDon't take him, save yourself. I really can't go to any of the other sections so I'm stuck.

Yeah I heard Hong was good, but it seems most of the previous teachers aren't teaching this semester. Chertok made a sign error today...I'm counting. Seems like instructors this semester are Chertok, Milanov, Kurtz, and Hu...Anyone know anything about Kurtz(lecturer) and Hu(postdoc)? Kurtz seems the most promising, but only because of the lack of information.

take Leslie KurtzI had her for Calc II, III, and diff eq. She's awesome - explains stuff slowly, very fair tests, lots of partial credit.

Hong is easy, but the material he teaches will not stick all that well. It's basically reliant upon pattern recognition, and you're not going to figure out what you're actually doing in the class based on how he teaches it. Applying what you learn in his class to anything outside of the narrow range of patterns you're taught, you'll see how useful his class was with a quickness.
