I want to audit a course in something outside of my field of study just to expose myself to somethign new and interesting. I did pretty well in my physics class eleventy hundred years ago and I think I would enjoy taking PY 328, the Astrophysics class. I also saw the basic intro to entomology class (ENT 201) and thought that could be interesting as well. Unfortunately, they're at the same time and therefore I cannot audit them both.I was wondering if anyone has taken either of these classes and if they suck or will be boring. If a couple people have a generally negative opinion about a certain one, I'll jump on the other. It seems as an audit class, a large one like the entomology class would be easier to casually sit in on, while I think I might be expected to stay caught up with the work in the smaller astrophysics class. Thanks for the advice. You can always rely on TWW to make decisions for you. [Edited on August 20, 2008 at 1:40 AM. Reason : Sorry if this belongs in school tool, it just seemed a little more like lounge material]

BEEKEEPING[/thread]

ahaha bees & beekeeping ftw. but the physics professors here are pretty good for the most part, so you could take your chances with that as well.

astrophysics ftw

well the ent course is just the "insects and people course"... does that all focus on bees or is it a broad topics course

ENT 203 An Introduction to the Honey Bee and BeekeepingThat's the class you want.

whats so great about this beekeeping course. I saw it, but it didn't seem that interesting. What's the class like?[Edited on August 20, 2008 at 10:23 AM. Reason : plus its closed and no avail seats]

Yeah that class is a bitch to get into because of its sheer awesomeness. I doubt there's any other class at State where you get to make wine
8/20/2008 10:33:44 AM
shit, that sounds awesome... also, how come every fucking class I want to take is on the same day at the same time. Why do they hate?

Metricula and I are in Entomology

Bees and Beekeeping was one of the best classes I took at State. But it's so easy you don't need to audit it!

I agree that Bees and Beekeeping is a good course. I got to take it in a SMALL class room with only about 20 other students as a part of FYC. If you guys thought Dr. Ambrose was easy in with the large class, he was even better with us - we got far less quizzes, and sometimes far less class as he had some health problems at the time. Its an easy class, but I also thought I learned a few things - about how larva become queen bees, some of the "rituals" in the hive that promote the best working hive as possible, etc. We even got to go out and carry a queen around and let the hive swarm around us.And yes, you get to taste and make mead (well, our class was advised not to taste it as we were freshman). Granted, its terrible, but its still pretty neat.

ENT201 is the most enjoyable class i have taken in college. the teacher is cool and it's pretty easy.

Insects and People was a really enjoyable class. We watched clips of movies that featured insects/arachnids (even some old horror/action movies). We ate insects. We got to handle several different types of insects. It was pretty fantastic.

Actually, to those who have taken the Astrophysics course, is it really math heavy or kinda conceptual? I was definitely looking for a class where I could learn about the topic by just going and listening to lectures and stuff. I didn't want some math-heavy class seeing as how I'm a grad student in my final year needing to focus on research at times. I wanted something casual.

entomology is very casual.

Physics is pretty awesome, but I don't think you can pass up a chance to raise BEES!
8/21/2008 8:58:09 PM
astrophysics, kthx.

Hmm. I would want to take both. One day I would like to support my own colony of bees to pollinate my garden and other plants but at the same time I have a huge love for space and science in general. Tough call.

went to one class of beekeeping and dropped. That shit had to go
8/21/2008 10:27:39 PM
what made you drop it Jen?
