Have you dropped it recently? Is it a laptop? How old is it, i.e. is there a warranty? Its likely that if you dropped it, the hard drive simply slipped out of the connector. If its a desktop, very easy fix. If its a laptop, probably not that bad. However, opening a laptop period voids the warranty on them.

^opening a laptop does not void the warranty. At least for dell/or my dell warranties. I typically have Dell send me my parts, and I install them. However, they do not cover damages during installation (if you're doing the installation)[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 8:41 AM. Reason : .]

one of 3 things is most likely wrongYour disk is brickedYour disk is corruptedYour boot record is corrupted1) Pop in your windows install cd and restart your computer. ---Make sure it boots from cd (google it if you have to).2) let the cd run and do its thing for a bit until you get to a screen that gives you options like "install a new windows" "repair an existing windows installation"3) choose to repair an existing (usually by pressing "R")4) follow the directions until your computer looks like DOS5) run the command "fixmbr"6) let it do its thing, restart your computer and take out your CD to make sure it is trying to boot from your hard drive7) if it's not fixed then get back to the DOS looking screen following the same process and run fixdsk8) restart etc9) if none of this works, go get some more computer help or go buy a new hard driveI hope you get it fixed
