I gotta get one for work and while it's more for data entry, I'd like to use it for movies, photoshop and very few games during downtime.

I'd like some recommendations on a 15" OR 17" model. I'll be lugging it around (flying with it), so weight is an issue, but mostly it'll stay in my office or residence.

Also dell has some WLED screens available, are they any good for energy savings compared to the CCFL versions?

How does under $1200 work? I'd like to keep it around $1000 if possible, as I don't know if I'm gonna get reimbursed for this yet (and I ain't made of money).

HP dv6700t/dv9700t or HP dv5t

Here are two recent good HP laptop deals:

Sony Vaio is also worth a look but will cost you a bit more.

Right now I believe the is a $400 off $1200 HP laptop coupon available. Check Slickdeals and FatWallet.

What about Dells? Do they have the same build quality issues?

Yes. Even the venerable toshiba laptops from years past have had some lemons.

I would but Apple Asia has a HORRIBLE rep for service. I need good service worldwide.

[Edited on August 13, 2008 at 3:01 PM. Reason : I just got that HP above, found a $500 coupon instead of the $400. extra battery!]
