I'm visiting (until Tues morning) and have been checking out grad schools/catching up with friends.Depending on what happens with work within the next 4-6 months, I may be moving up in July.Fingers crossed things happen as they need to so I can move!!!@ snewf - what part of Brooklyn? I've been staying with friends in Park Slope and Bushwick (@ the latter, I know, not the best area...). Do you like living in BK thus far?
9/28/2008 11:13:46 PM
was there all week, and just got back to Raleigh today. was busy with work down in the financial district most of the time, but i managed to visit some of my old favourites: McSorleys, Brother Jimmy's, the MoMA, etc
9/29/2008 12:19:42 AM
wall st was a bit insane today.went to the guggenheim, still never been to the MoMA... must go next time I'm up.
9/30/2008 2:04:14 AM
^ start from the top down. the top floors have the Matisses, Cezannes, Picassos, Rothkos, Kandinskys, and other that have stood the test of time.the lower floors are a lot of contemporary artists -- still worth seeing, but many of them are just weird for the sake of being weird.
10/1/2008 5:56:30 PM
there's a bojangles in brooklyn
10/1/2008 7:50:57 PM
The Guggenheim and the MoMA are both fun...not to mention the desserts at the MoMA Terrace cafe is yum! Sometimes I wish I could live in nyc.
10/1/2008 10:12:19 PM
The MoMA bored me. I thought the Met was way better.ssjamind, did you check out Ulyssess's on Pearl St? Best bar in the financial district imo.
10/2/2008 3:32:40 PM
yup! they had some good smelling food too, but i didn't eat there. we also had a function at Bayards right down the street.also went to Swift - around the corner from McSorley's (with the McSorley's bartenders after closing the place down) - good times
10/2/2008 7:06:42 PM
there's quite a few of us NCSU TWWers here in NY. Some don't ever look in here anymore tho
10/15/2008 7:00:35 PM
some just get DUI's and fail at life wherever they goI was just up there last week, i go frequently take the train from DC to manhattan for work...acela express ftw
10/15/2008 7:08:16 PM
just got back last night from being there for 5 days
10/15/2008 7:26:28 PM
I actually almost lived in Brooklyn, but instead I live in Philadelphia now.My cousins live up there though. Lower Manhattan.
10/16/2008 9:54:44 AM
I live in Bushwick... real Bushwick, not "East Williamsburg" so does anyone want to have a Tdub NYC meet up?
10/30/2008 3:32:07 PM
CaelNCSU is currently crashing on my air mattress right now.we'll probably hit up the parade in the village tomm. night
10/31/2008 12:18:11 AM
I was down there near the parade routetrying like hell to avoid that shit
10/31/2008 2:37:54 PM
really? I think it'll be fun for a bit and if its not I can escape and head to Hoboken or something. There should be a bunch of women out.
10/31/2008 5:24:50 PM
I live in CT, but im in downtown almost every weekend.
11/2/2008 2:16:15 PM
I'm in Norwalk, CT right now, an hour from NYC.
11/9/2008 4:34:13 AM
what's going on the weekend of the 5thi'll be working there tues-fri and flying my wife up for the weekend - she's only been once since HS and i've been working there for a few months - we're not planning on anything too touristy - we'll be with another friend of mine and his gf as well because they'll be in town for his company's xmas party
11/12/2008 8:57:50 PM
maybe i should have clarified dec. 5th
11/17/2008 6:01:16 PM
I know this is a long shot, but does anyone in NYC have a room (temporary or whatever) possibly available on the cheap? Obviously, NYC cheap is not the same as NC cheap. I interned in NYC this summer, and I graduated in December. I may have a possible paid internship available to me asap, but I'd need to get housing arranged.
1/10/2009 1:15:55 AM
check the NYC schools and find summer sublets for people who are going elsewhere for internships. i know a ton of people who got summer lets thru NYU and columbia when I was in grad school

^^it's more of an ASAP type of thing. a company i talked with said they have room for winter interns, but they're pretty much set for the summer.^been checking it out, but most places require you to be up there to have any chance of getting it. i thought it might be easier if someone's looking for a sublet/roommate that i knew/knew of. but we'll see.
1/11/2009 12:10:33 AM
^ e-mail people off craigslist and book a ticket to go up for a few days, I booked a ticket last week for this week and paid $140 round trip direct (RDU to JFK). Meet with them while you're up there.
1/17/2009 9:52:20 PM
My favorite pizza place in all of Manhattan went out of business.Words cannot describe my shock/disappointment/anger/misery
1/29/2009 3:49:23 PM
have you been to Artichoke?on 14th... somewhere between 1st and 3rd
1/31/2009 11:53:26 AM
Has anyone driven from NC to NYC and have any pointers? We're just going to go by Google Maps unless anyone has time-saving/traffic-avoiding tips. And we're splitting it into two days, I'm sure. It's Greensboro to Astoria, if anyone cares.
1/31/2009 11:39:58 PM
it's a long drive - but doable in 1 day - if you are staying in the city for more than a day or so it's almost always more cost effective to fly unless you have a big payload ]]
1/31/2009 11:41:26 PM
It's probably going to be split up. Moving stuff up there, so don't want to get there and be exhausted when there's a mattress, box springs and lots of boxes and bags to move.
1/31/2009 11:57:42 PM
When I moved up there I did it in one day, its only an 8-9 hour drive. Pack the UHaul the night before, then drive up leaving in the morning and unpack when you get there that night, or the next day. From Greensboro I'd take I-85 to I-95 in VA. In Baltimore take the Fort McHenry tunnel, not the other one. In Delaware take the Memorial Bridge over to NJ, don't cut through Philly/PA. When you're in NJ and getting close to NYC listen to AM 1010 for a report of the bridges and tunnels. If you're taking a truck your best bet will be Gothals Bridge onto Staten Island and then Verazzano Bridge into Brooklyn and then just take the BQE (278) to 31st street, last exit before Tri-Borough Bridge. If you can use an EZPass for the trip (if you know someone that will let you borrow theirs) use it. You'll save a few bucks in tolls and probably save an hour not waiting to pay at the toll booths.

I just did that drive on Sunday. I packed the truck on Saturday and left around 2am Sunday morning. We were in Brooklyn by noon, even with a slight detour (just getting into Manhattan, took the long way), and stopping for gas/breakfast.It's not the easiest way to do the drive, but the truck was returned by 2 so I was happy with the outcome.Oh yeah, and I live here now. Williamsburg (E. Williamsburg), off the Montrose stop. Work in Chelsea.
2/4/2009 12:00:46 AM
i'm going to a wedding in brooklyn saturday
2/4/2009 2:12:05 AM
^^^The Pizzeria on MacDougal Street between Minneta Lane and Bleecker Street. (It was literally called "The Pizzeria") The Minneta Tavern closed to (next to the Pizzeria), that place had been open for decades^^Haaay
2/6/2009 1:27:59 PM
I'm jealous of the L because it has those nifty signs that tell you where the trains are
2/6/2009 9:57:41 PM
^^ hay hay hay... whatchu doin'? (BTW, NYC rocks. Just sayin')
2/7/2009 1:11:09 AM
Wow, our drive up was so much better than the drive back this summer. We could have made it in one day, but we didn't have a bed to sleep in when we'd get to Astoria at midnight.NYC does rock. I'm so happy to be here now.
2/7/2009 5:43:21 PM
ooh yay! hope you enjoyed the weather, freakin' gorgeous today for this month!
2/8/2009 7:27:35 PM
I LOVED the weather today. Went to Union Square to wander around in general, and especially in Whole Foods and Trader Joe's for groceries. I'm nervous about tomorrow - first day of my internship.
2/8/2009 7:36:02 PM
^ good luck
2/9/2009 12:14:27 AM
I'm not in the city, but I'm in upstate
